Janis on Sheldon's couch spot

Janis on Sheldon's couch spot

Unbelievable. April already. Just three months into the year and I've already done shows in six countries. I must be out of my mind...

<grin>

This will be quick, because I'm desperately trying to make deadlines for everything from my upcoming commencement speech at Warren Wilson College to my next shows with Karla Bonoff. And as many of you know, I'm having rotator cuff surgery in mid-May, which means I've had to cram everything I planned to do all summer into the next month. Impossible!

Janis, Monica Mancini & Dave Grusin

Janis, Monica Mancini & Dave Grusin

In the meanwhile, I got to attend a taping of Big Bang Theory and sit in Sheldon's spot... started a project with the incredible Dave Grusin and the equally talented Monica Mancini... had dinners with my pals Kevin Eubanks, and Akira Tsukahara... recorded my autobiography for release this fall via Audible.com...spent a fantastic afternoon at the home of Harlan & Susan Ellison... and broke bread with Captain America.

Who says life gets dull after 60?!

Hoping you are all the same...

    Tom Paxton was at Janis' very first public show, at New York's famed Village Gate. Janis was just 13 years old. She received a standing ovation but since she was nervous and already headed back to her seat, she had no idea it was happening. (She also hadn't attended enough concerts to know that you were supposed to take an encore!) Tom, along with Lou Gossett Jr and a couple of other performers, urged her to "Go back, kid! Go back!"

    The show these two old friends put on, with the able assistance of multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Robin Bullock, is living proof that "The sum is greater than the parts." In addition to singing old favorites like "Ramblin' Boy" and "At 17", they sing one another's songs, add harmony and instrumentals, and share the stage for far too short a time.

    Don't miss it!
