My *!&*! Myspace page has been hacked somehow... when you open it in IE or Opera, really crappy music starts playing. I knew absolutely nothing about myspace.com three hours ago, but now I've cleared out all my "friends" (including the porn stars), changed all my privacy settings so no one can be my friend, and stopped just short of cancelling the entire damned thing.
If anyone knows how I can get rid of the damned music, please email me privately at janisianmail@earthlink.net. I've unchecked everything I could find...
Darn darn darn. What creepazoids!

I'm sorry to hear about that Janis. It concerns me that this could happen at all. I presume you've reported this to the admins at MySpace? I don't know what you can do about it but I will ask around. Hopefully, someone here has already figured something out.

Marcia :( Editing to add that I tried this with Firefox and IE and I am not getting the weird music you spoke of.....so perhaps that has been fixed. I DO see that there are many "fake" Janis Ians on myspace.........

I realize full well that this isn't an answer that's desired but unfortunately you might just have to:

cancelling the entire damned thing.

I've often told people to stay away from -all- gaming sites, Facebook, MySpace, etc. etc. These types of sites attract this very type of behavior. I've had accounts at Bebo, StumbleUpon, and a few others but I've either discontinued or abandoned them all because of this type of thing. They're almost all miscreant magnets for lack of a better term.

Gosh....my ex-housemate has a Facebook account with her real name and all of her personal info. Y'all stop by and visit, now!

Yes perhaps, but wasn't that "ex-housemate" what I call a "miscreant" :p . . . . . or was that somebody else I'm thinking of?

:D

I think "miscreant" would be an appropriate word. After all, this is a family board.

that sucks Janis, I'm sorry. I know that these sites are important for promotion, still you have to look at pros and cons. I'd cancel, just because MySpace seems to be fading out. good luck

I never got into MySpace and I do agree with Hoops that it seems to be fading out. So I also vote for Janis to cancel it. My first reaction was "Don't people have better things to do with their time?" Facebook seems to have taken the place of MySpace and while I do have an account, I find it time consuming and only check it occasionally. I'm happy with just emailing people and being on the JIMB - which feels very safe and where I have only had positive interactions with people.
