I walked in to the venue and went to find my seat, as i turned the corner from the doorway, a vision found the corner of my eye. I Said " Excuse me Janis" and she looked up and smiled and put out her hand. I took it and told her "It's me, hoops" to which she relplied " And so we meet again" "Yes, finally" I replied "It's good to see you" and she smiled and we shook hands then i left her alone with her book.
The time came finally, a guitar surounded by a cloud of white was on stage. The strings started to twinkle and sing their heavenly song. within moments, from the soft white could came of voice that can only be described as other worldly. Powerful and gentle, the cloud invited me to a holy experience, a place where you know that God is speaking thru the gifts that have been offered because the owner of these gifts allows it to be so. It is her joy and her life whether she knows it or not when she sings and plays the strings of the instrument she holds carefully in her arms she is creating with a wisodm that only true creativity knows a song to the soul, an act of love.
My hands held tight to the video camara, which in my thoughtlessness, shook due to my nervous gratiutude and my parkinson's...finally when my muscles had stiffened to a point of motionlessness i felt my stupidity leave me. I missed one or two songs on film, but have a masterpiece on the tiny cassettes. If you want me to remember a song list, i can't, if you want me to remeber a title, i probabaly can't But i remember the total sensory experience.
I met a fellow rudie and his wife ( rickster it was great to meet you and your wife, m y friend!) he took my picture with Janis which i will always treasure.
She hugged me hard and i hugged her back and we wished each other well " See you on the message board, Hoops" "Thank you so much, Janis" and we smiled and i left her to go to her home away from home.
I'm writting today because on my way home i encountered and accident that stopped all traffic on the highway i drove for more than an hour and half. I don't know the details but when i reached the accident sight almiot 2 and a half hours after i'd stopped, i saw one vehicle mangled alongside the road. When i left the venue I thought, "I'll be home by 10:30" but it was nearly 1:30AM when i walked in my back door praying that no one was seriously hurt in that accident. I felt lucky that i just missd my medication time by 4 and a half hoursand that i was alive enough to feel my decompensation. I went to bed, knowing that i had had a once in a lifetime experience in Rosendale NY and i thanked God for my chance to meet Janis again and to sit in traffic rather than what happned to those people involved in the accident. What a Glorious night it was
