haha, interesting how the media chose to represent that topic. An "offbeat" news item, I suppose... There are easier ways to reduce your risk of getting cancer without the other negative effects of alcohol and too much pizza. ;) For example, instead of eating the pizza for the sauce (for the lycopene), just go directly for some diced tomatoes. Although the combination sounds unappealing, wash it down with some blueberry juice and you've got some great antioxidants in your body :)

To sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea (http://chinesefood.about.com/library/weekly/aa011400a.htm) is reputed to be helpful:

cancer
rheumatoid arthritis
high cholesterol levels
cariovascular disease
infection
impaired immune function

What makes green tea so special?

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.

Green tea is also high in anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. I have never caught the flu or a cold while drinking the stuff, even when my sweetie was sick.
Also, I think it may be useful in curing fire-blight. My wild indigo plant(baptisia) has it. After cutting back the infected area 6 inches, I made a strong brew of green tea, about 1 cup or more, mixed in about 4-5 drops of tea tree oil and sprayed it on the entire plant. There was only one little spot that came back. I repeated the process and so far so good. The conventional treatment is streptomiacin. I figured since the tea worked so well for me, why not a plant?

Beer and tomato pizza is also one of the few food/drink combos that has a complete compliment of vitamins and minerals.

Hoops, the last I heard, women don't have to worry about prostate cancer, so it's ok if you hate beer.

Well, all I can say is...lucky me...my favorite combo!! Although I like the way Snakegrl thinks about the Mounds candy bars. ;) As a matter of fact, they happen to be one of the ones I like best. Now, if we could just find that a big fat piece of chocolate cake has some kind of cure/benefit that outweighs the bad...hmmmmmm

All of the food groups are covered here, grains ,dairy, poultry, veggies-that the chikens eat, its just recycled, and chocolate- the exotic feel good sustance that puts everybody in a good mood, therefore, a benifit to society.
So, eat more chocolate.:D

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm beer <homer simpson drool>
To paraphrase Tom Hall..

Last night I dreamed
That I passed from the scene
And I went to a place so sublime
Aw, the water was clear
And tasted like beer
Then they turned it all into wine (awww)

I like beer.
It makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer.
It helps me unwind
And sometimes it makes me feel mellow
(Makes him feel mellow)
Whiskey's too rough,
Champagne costs too much,
And vodka puts my mouth in gear
Aw, this little refrain
Should help me explain
As a matter of fact I love beer
(Yes, he likes beer).
