I was prepared, she was 18+ and fragile, you could feel every bone in her body when you cuddled her. When I came home from my vacation to the US I noticed she was about to give up. I saw it all went down during the week. When I wook up this morning I called my office to take the day of and spend my time sitting by her site and say my goodbyes. She passed away at 2pm this afternoon. I´m sad but glad she waited for me to come home ..

I think it doesn't matter how old a cat or any other pet is - it always hurts when the moment to say good bye has come. Good you were there when she passed away, Marjan. Loosing a cat is like loosing a friend - I know the feeling.

I'm so sorry, Marjan, but I'm glad you got to spend her last moments with her.
Hugs, honey.
Oh, Marjan. I'm so sorry for your loss; I've been there, too. Your post has brought tears to my eyes, especially seeing the photo.
Our beloved pets are family. I too am glad you were able to say your goodbyes as you did; may she rest in peace.

Aw, I'm very sorry to read about this Marjan. I know she waited for you and was comforted that you were there for her.
"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; Her eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Can't help but think of writer May Sarton's tribute to her cat Scrabble when she wrote "There is a hole in the universe that was Scrabble."
When one has a pet for such a long while the hole is particularly profound since they've been a part of your life for so long. Pleased for your loyal cat that you were there for her.

I'm sorry Marjan - my Lucy died laying on my chest. She was 14 which was remarkable as she had diabetes. I still miss her, but I'm thankful that I had her and that she had me. Your baby lived a long and happy life with you I'm sure, so we have to be grateful for the time we get with our pets.

Marjan,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty. I'm so glad she waited for you. Michelle and I lost 3 old cats in a pretty short amount of time and each one was devastating in its own way. They're all special, and I'm glad you had each other.

It's so easy to take a cat for granted....yet they are utterly impossible to replace. I miss your cat, too, Marjan.

So sorry to hear of your loss.... Best, E
My Agnes was 19 when she finally went...I will never forget her, either.
Your little 'Tuxedo cat' is beautiful, and I know they're smart, too!
Marcia, that danged 'Rainbow Bridge' story ALWAYS makes me cry.
My condolences to you, Marjan...you lost a friend yesterday, and that is never easy...love her memory.

Your little one is adorable Marjan. When I read your thread about your cat having died I thought about you losing your other cat in 2008. It must be very difficult. I think I will cry for a month when Max will go. I don't even want to think about it. Luckily he is only 4. It's a good thought that your 6 year old will be with you for a long time. Big hug!

My belated condolences Marjan. It is comforting that you were able to be with her at the end. The last cat I lost died frightened and alone in a cage at the vets following surgery, and the memory of that torments me. The oldest of the four I currently have is 17 and frail, but she is still holding on. I hope that when her time comes her passing will be as peaceful and comforting as it was for your kitty, having you with her to say goodbye. It was a good end to a good life, and there is comfort in that.
