View Full Version : Janis ONE HOUR from Pittsburgh???
Thanks to Agnes for this heads up!!
August 12 at some place called Champion PA at Seven Springs Resort, Janis is appearing at the 'HippieFest' along with a bunch of other people. No details about timing yet, but hopefully Janis will be performing late in the lineup and we can head over after the picnic.
Whadya think???? Cripes....I hope the timing works out. Since it seems this will be the only time I'm in the same state as Janis.............

As i mentioned in the other thread, The venue Janis will be playing at is more like 2 1/2 to 3hours away.. Its construction season in the burgh.
For those interested.. Here's the route from the picnic area to Seven Springs..
http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?do=nw&go=1&r=f&aoh=&aot=&aof=&1a=Ridge%20Rd&1c=Carnegie&1s=PA&1z=15106&1y=US&1l=i2Cu55J1aMo%3d&1g=qPt%2bxPAl8ZM%3d&1pn=Allegheny%20County%20Settlers%20Cabin%20Pk&1pl=&1v=ADDRESS&1ffi=1&1n=&1qn=Allegheny%20County%20Settlers%20Cabin%20Pk&2a=&2c=&2s=PA&2z=&2y=US&2l=j7rJgUR5G1Q%3d&2g=SbHR0EZ17s0%3d&2pl=&2v=STATE&2ffi=&2n=&2qn=Seven%20Springs&panelbtn=2&1qc=&q=Seven%20Springs&2pn=Seven%20Springs&2sb=Seven%20Springs%20Mountain%20Resort%7cCopper%2 0Kettle%20Hwy%7cRockwood%7cPA%7c15557%7c400296%7c% 2d792885%7c814%2d352%2d7777%7cUS&2qc=Skiing%20Centers%20%26%20Resorts
I would suggest taking Rte 51 south to I70 and doglegging back to Seven Springs.. Less construction.
Thanks RJ...I didn't see any other thread mentioning it besides the Hotel thread.......hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm where's our GD Personal Jet Packs huh??

Well there is always the chance that Penndot may finish some of their projects on time. 7 springs really isn't that far away.. its just the construction delays, detours.. Could run the back way up through West newton and avoid the interstates altogether, I used to use that route visiting a buddy just the other side of 7 springs..
And of course we could always just cancel the picnic portion of the weekend so those that want to go to the hippiefest don't have any guilt.
maybe we can do both? It depends I think on what the timing of the lineup is............... ???????

If everyone wants to go to Seven Springs to see Janis, it seems unlikely that it would be worthwhile to still have the Jan-nic in the park. Even if Janis performs in the early afternoon - it would be fairly late before anyone got back.
Don't forget, Redjack and I have already put down deposits on the grove and the licenses needed to have the event. I certainly understand people wanting to see Janis, who wouldn't!! But it seems unrealistic to think it would be possible to do both. The amount of preparation and time that is necessary to pull this off is tremendous.
I'm sure no one expects Redjack to sit alone in a park grilling his butt (all puns intended) off while the majority of people head off for the concert.
If everyone is in agreement that they want to go to the concert, then lets all do that and cancel the Jan-nic event now so that we can see if we can get our money back for the grove.

Hey, this picnic/JanNic was planned long before this festival was made known! We all knew Janis wasn't coming to the picnic but we all wanted to get together as friends and fellow Rudies. I am coming for the Jan-Nic. If the festival thing worked out that would be gravy.....pun INTENDED!! So please, don't be upset and don't stop the planning. Certainly not on MY account anyway!!!
Marcia :)
Beth, I sure don't have any intention of missing the picnic. I just hoped it would be possible to do them both. You guys live there, if you don't think it's possible to make it to Champion after the BBQ, then I won't bother.
I guess I was hoping that maybe Janis wasn't going to be on until the late PM, since I didn't see any specific timing details for the event I was ever hopeful. As Marcia said, this was planned for the Rudies to get together, and we knew Janis wasn't a part of it......plus....she probably is only going to do a couple songs anyway, I'd much rather stick around and help torture Redjack. ;)
Count me in!!

Has anyone ever told you, you're gorgeous when you're mad? :p
I think I'd forego the 25 minutes to have a try of Redjack's famous ribs! But then, it's a choice I don't have to make, sadly.
ps, I blame Randy for saying that the concert was the next day!

Hey RJ and IB. I'm coming to the picnic, and although we can't get a flight until the 12th we'll be there!! I'll try and get out of New York on the 11th in the meantime. My goal is to meet as many Rudies as possible, and I'm flying around the world to do so :D Keep those deposits alive guys. I'm hungry already :)

I am sorry if I sounded angry - I really wasn't. I totally understood the wish to see Janis - as I said originally. I was just concerned that Redjack would go to a heck of a lot of trouble and expense for a low turnout and that did not seem fair to him.
I'm glad you guys want to come to the Jan-nic I've been waiting and wishing for August to get here and can't wait to party with my friends from the Club Cafe event in March and with all the new friends I'm anxiously waiting to meet.

I 'spect the Irish and the English have different ideas as to what a cockle is, or that sweet Molly Malone is one disturbed chick...(one I'd like to get to know better!)
In Dublin's fair city, where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
As she wheeled her wheel-barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels, alive, alive-O!
Alive, alive-O! alive, alive-O!
Crying cockles and mussels, alive, alive-O!

For the express trip back to my 6th grade classroom! We sang that song in our music classes. That was over 40 years ago! Lord, I'm old!

I won't tell ANYONE how old you are, Karen *snicker* Perhaps you're old enough to remember "Homer & Jethro" too? They parodied songs back in the 60's and did a version of this song. I can't remember all of it, because, well...I'm old too!
"She wheels her wheelbarrow, through streets that are narrow,
Her barrow is narrow, her hips are too wide.
Wherever she wheels it, the neighborhood feels it,
Her girdle keeps splitting the holes on each side."
And yes, I'm old enough to remember girdles too!
Could 'cockles of the heart' be a droll pun, since everyone has long known the heart is a 'mussel' (muscle, that is to clarify for the aliens among us.:p )

Good heavens we may have struck upon a folk song Dar can play beautifully! Have you managed a "G" yet? Or at least a "C"?
