..... without a backup or the installer of the previous version.
I started up the Mozilla Thunderbird mail program that I've been using for ages and just on a whim I decided to check for updates/upgrades right when I was getting ready to shut things down. I've religiously upgraded every time there's been one available and until now I've been very grateful and rewarded. Today when it was reported that version 3 was available and I was asked if I wanted to upgrade I said yes as usual. When the program was supposed to restart, it didn't. Somewhere in the panic I'd lost EVERYTHING . . . . . on the surface.
FORTUNATELY for me I still had the installer for the previous version which I reinstalled and everything came back. This should be a wise word to those that are presented with the opportunity to "upgrade" . . . . . DON'T! At least don't do it unless you've got the previous version to fall back on. Also, BACK UP OFTEN!
I've got everything back now (whew) fortunately,.... but I was lucky. Nothing disappeared except visually for a short time.
