I usually save rudie vibes for those who really need them, but I am about to go out of my mind...
As you all know I am currently looking for a job. Well in late October I got a letter from Unemployment saying my balance would give me around 24 weeks of unemployment. Suddenly when I checked today (a mere 6 weeks later...) it says I only have enough for about 5 weeks. It made me sick to my stomach, and I know that it will be next to impossible to get a hold of unemployment over the next couple of days. I am praying for a typo.
Thanks

Do you live near an unemployment office or have a caseworker you can actually talk to? Seven years ago when the company I worked for decided to shut down the plant we were all put on unemployment and assigned a special caseworker to help us with retraining benefits. I know exactly what you're going through with the paperwork nightmare and really hope that it's just a computer mistake and that you will get your full allotment of paid unemployment benefits! See if you can talk to a real person to help answer your questions...easier said than done sometimes, but hopefully s/he can give you some straight answers and help! Will send Rudie Vibes from out west!!

vibes heading your way. If you can't connect in person at an office then get comfortable and pick up the phone. If you've got a speaker phone or a phone with a head set use it while you're on hold waiting to connect. Listen to your own music and get yourself into a good place while waiting (hard, I know). Let me know if you need a special version of the "I've got to connect with 'em bluzzzzzzz". Hang in there and don't hang up! Also, for what it's worth at least you found this now and not in five weeks, there is some time to navigate that red tape...hmmmmmm "I've got the navigatin' Red Tape Bluzzzzzz". jm

I found dealing with unemployment by telephone a nightmare! They were usually so busy that they weren't even accepting calls. And when I did get through, most were jerks. Hence I resorted to showing up at a local walk in center. Sure I waited a couple of hours but I preferred it to waiting days or being on hold and listening to the same message over and over. Everyone I spoke to face to face was pleasant and did their best to help out. So try today or tomorrow to see someone in person.
Rudie vibes that you get this unemployment SNAFU straightened out before the new year and that you find a new job ASAP.

Thanks everyone. I think the KS unemployment office may be short staffed. I tried from 7:30 yesterday morning to 5:30 pm today. (Closed tomorrow.) I will try again on Monday. Anyway. I found the original that they sent me, and I will be faxing it Monday along with what I found online.
Thanks all for the vibes!

Sending more Rudie Vibes to you, Stephanie, that this works out or that you get the best job ever!
Stephanie, it's no small thing to lose your job then suddenly be faced with the possibility that the income you had expected be cut by more than half. Here's hoping that it will prove to be an easily fixed mix-up.

I know. It's happened before. I'm more fortunate than most people. I live with my parents, but they can't pay my bills. I've worked some temp jobs which helps immensely. If I can keep those going until I find a job, I'll be okay. It's just frustrating. I've actually been out of work since March. The job I had until then was only part time. (It went part time after I had been there 9 months, when the company was bought out.) I just need kind words to make it through (and if anyone knows of any jobs.....)
These are scary and really vulnerable times, huh? It is good that we have this place to find each other and draw some comfort. I'm sure your parents are glad you are there. It's really hard to look at a difficult time as a positive. I remember a friend I visited with last fall when I was just coming out of the worst effects of encephalopathy who said I should look at this time as a sort of vacation, a chance to really take in the fall colors. I glared at her, are you crazy? Most people, I think, at one time or another fantasize about taking time off work, off from everyday responsibilities. Trouble is, when you have to, there's usually a good reason that is often outside of your control and it sure doesn't put you in the mindset of a vacation.... She meant well, but it really knocked me over.
When a loved one dies, the gathering of family and friends can be a huge comfort. That's extreme, but even small losses are better weathered within community. Keep hope.

Stephanie,
Do you have a career center in KS? We have one here in Chattanooga and they are sometimes able to answer and help with unemployment benefit questions. I've been unemployed since March and calling the office is a nightmare. There is usually a 45-minute wait before you get a "real person". I do know that my benefits have been extended once and my current benefits are to run out in about two weeks. Unfortunately you don't know if an extension is given until you call in the last time.
With so many people on unemployment and due to human error, things do get screwed up. Since we are talking about your livlihood, I'd make the effort to get your questions answered.

Well I haven't gotten hold of unemployment yet. (The phone is constantly busy.) However, I did check the balance of my account (they sent me my deposit to the bank today) and the balance after this payment is showing the same as last week, so here is what I think happened. I am still getting paid off of the earlier money (the 24 week) account. The amount that is shown online is my teir III balance which won't kick in until after I've exhausted the 24 week balance. This has happened before. I will eventually get a hold of unemployment, but it looks as if everything is okay. (I'm still worried a little, but still I feel ions better.)
Thanks for all the vibes!!!:)

Great news Stephanie! Those systems seem too complex for normal people to understand. Fear of economic insecurity is the worst anxiety. I'm glad it is looking better for you.
