we all remember this thread, a place to brag about how wonderful our loved ones are to us. a place to curse our loved ones for not knowing a thing about us. a place just to be excited as heck to share.
As many of you may remember my father is the son of the Pope, only holier than he. last year it was the 70 lbs chunk from the mount of olives with the 10 commandments.
this year a book- The Lamb's Supper, the Mass As Heaven On Earth- and interesting read, I'm sure (I was sure i was going to get "The Catholic Answer to Gay marriage" since he had two copies in his office)
a video, oh i love these-"Untold Blessings, Three Paths to holiness"
and a Holy Water Font...yes, you read right. it is a small, blessed ceramic Jesus of the Sacred Heart piece that can be hung by your door and it has a small bowl at the bottom to be filled with Holy Water for blessings for all who leave and/or enter.
From my boys...My sister Gab's kids, Jackson 8, Simon 6, Thomas 4 ( who wrapped one gift by himself) and Max 19 months and 17 lbs of cute- a box of Andes Mints, My fav and a book of Sudoku, my fav when i lose my head. they bought and paid for these gifts themselves and bought all 13 of their aunts and uncles gifts the same way. that's why i call em my boys!
Tracy and I are having our Christmas tomorrow, though she did give me the gift of showing up at Mass to spend that time with me...I am blessed.
OK Your turn, Now spill!

I got a 12-pack of Schlitz, a jumbo can of mixed nuts and a new cell phone.
But the best gift was taking two truckloads of presents to a family we adopted. Enough goodies for the kids to take them through birthdays next year as well.
Tonight I am taking about 30 friends and family to Knuckleheads Saloon to see Bob Walkenhorst and his rock n roll band. (Bob and Jeff go on tour to Norway in March for any Rudies over there. They are playing at a motorcycle club for one performance).
And we got a white Christmas in Kansas City area. A blizzard actually.

My main gift was my new veneers that I got in late summer. I've told Ned he doesn't have to get me another gift for a very long time! He still got me the book Dangerously Funny about the Smothers Brothers, and the Season 3 set of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. (Can't wait to sit down with those!)Bailey gave me 2 books - Fail Nation, with selections from failblog.org, and I Judge You When You Use Poor Grammar!!!! It seems there is a Facebook group by the same name. I must join! (Bat, are you going to join with me? ;)) From Allison I got 3 pairs of fluffy slipper-socks and a pair of black shoes. My folks gave us a set of lovely wooden TV trays. We got ornaments and kitchen towels from one sister, an Outback Steakhouse gift card and calendar from another, and a wooden magazine rack from the 3rd sister that was made by my brother-in-law.
Ummmm...I will take orders for aprons like Wendy's! But, I have to finish shirts, first, for Mary and Orphan of the Road!
Hmm . . . let's see . . .
Gift cards from The Source and Future Shop
A box of English Breakfast tea
Two volumes of coffee and tea which I thought at first were two very large books but are actually limited-edition boxed fine tea and coffee from Second Cup
A slow cooker
A canister of After Eight mint sticks, although it says "straws" on the label
Four rechargeable Energizer batteries (per my request) with the added bonus of a deal for two replacements when they begin not to hold their charge any longer
Season Four of The Waltons (I know, I know, but when you grow up in a family from hell it's nice to escape once in a while)
Chauffeur service to and from the boyfriend's, although not in a limo or anything
And best of all, spending time with and cooking for those whom I actually consider family, especially the boyfriend's two-year-old grandson who is perpetually laughing and in a good mood

Well, my family is of mixed beliefs and religions. We gathered
together on Dec. 24th Eve at my Jewish Sister's and Brother-in-law's
home, we had kosher ham! My J. Witness Brother and his 5 member
family joined us, plus my Mother who is an Episcopalian and then
there is me representing The Lesbian Naturalists!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We do
not speak of any specific holiday and we visit and eat and drink, ha.
Of course, we do not exchange presents but the gift of togetherness
is the best gift of all.
You are in my heart, p
One gift, to be used again and again --
Well, my media player, always quirky, finally crapped out, for the most part. (I can still play the music, but the display is all but gone, so I can only play "blind" and it no longer shows up on my computer when connected, so can't add new music.) SO . . .
A very good friend took pity on me and simply handed over a 2-year old iPod Classic. No complaints!!

Well, besides the annual funny chicken gifts my friends always give me each year (it's a gag started many years ago)
Got some DVDs/CDs I wanted:
Dolly Parton "Live from London" CD/DVD set
Paul McCartney "Good Evening NYC" CD/DVD set
Lou Reed "Live in Montreux" DVD
a DVD of the movie "Infamous"
Clothing items: scarf/hat/gloves, a pair of cozy slippers, and a few gift cards, and a bottle of one of my favorite perfumes.
And too much food to eat.... thank goodness for elastic waistbands!

Well I was nice to myself at least....went to two Janis Ian performances in December! And got two of her CDs & one DVD. Also I got myself a "$25,000" dollar guitar - at least it is to me - arrived a week before Christmas.
Now from my relatives I got a Men's Travel Kit. Didn't she get me the very same travel kit last year? Either she thinks I'm in need of grooming, wants me to go somewhere far away, has a closet full of the kits (unused by her husband) or a customer brings them to her at work. But I play nice & pretend to be surprised and express how the comb comes in handy since I am always losing mine (my hair is kept short so that I really don't need a comb), but she doesn't notice the irony & mischief in my remark.
And the main bartender, whom I get a nice piece of jewlry every year, gave me a red token for a free beer - I was going to save it to get Janis Ian a beer if she ever comes to Cleveland - maybe as a Nominee for the Rockn'Roll Hall of Fame- but I couldn't wait that long.
Well that is about it this year.

I received Jimmy Buffett's new CD Buffett Hotel
The soundtrack to Shrek the Musical. haven't seen the show yet, but the clips I've seen look so cute I had to have the songs.
The soundtrack from The Wild Party with Julia Murney (a former Elphaba)
A Jimmy Buffett in concert DVD.
A graphic novel version of The Wizard of Oz. (I had completely forgotten seeing it at our local comic shop and saying I might like to get it sometime.
In praise of losing my brain cells, it means that the gift was a total surprise.)
The 80's version of the game Scene-It. Apparently I was asleep for most of the decade, because I could only answer a couple questions. Or maybe it's that whole losing the brain cells thing, maybe I once knew the answers.
A set of Wizard of Oz Pez dispensers. Dorothy, Toto, Witch, Wizard Head, Lion, Scarecrow, Tinman. Surprisingly good likenesses.
Peggy's sister gave us this very cool thing, it's a series of photos of objects that represent letters...PEGDAR.
http://www.alphabetphotography.ca/create_a_word.aspx?w=pegdar
You can choose different photos to represent the letters, this isn't exactly the one we got, but you get the idea.
Oh and we won tickets to see WICKED. yes, again. Wish I had this kind of luck with the lottery.

Oh, Dar, I like that alphabet word thing, pretty cool.
And I LOVE the Wild Party... I got to see it in NYC several times.
There are so many good songs on the cast album but my fav is "Raise the Roof" It just makes me want to dance when I hear it.... My friend Kevin Cahoon was in that show he played Phil D'Armano. If you have the booklet to the CD he's on the inside back cover .. the guy on top.

I see him! Mary I had not even heard of this show. But at a recent benefit concert one of the singers, I forget her name, but I know she's been in several Broadway shows, did the song called "An Old Fashioned Love Story". Of course we LOVED LOVED LOVED it, and immediately went searching to find out where it was from. Lucky you to see it several times. Did you see that whole cast? Idina and Taye? Julia Murney? I agree it has lots of very fun songs.

Yup, Dar, I saw Idina/Taye the whole original cast, the very one on the CD. Alix Korey the one who sings "An Old Fashioned Love Story" in the show is a fantastic and funny actress/singer. I remember seeing Alix in the revival of Hello Dolly back in 1978 when she played Minnie Fay. She always had a distinct voice to my ears. Love that show.
Enjoy!
