Joan, I am so sorry. I've been there, too. Our beloved dogs and cats give us so much, unconditionally, and ask for so little in return. My heartfelt Rudie vibes and caring thoughts to you.

Joan, double rudie vibes coming to you from the west. I know how much you love your dogs and how hard it is to lose a member of the 'pack'.

Another friend of mine, a minister in Canada, also lost a pet this week.

That makes 3. I hope they are having one heck of a game of fetch up there at the Rainbow Bridge, and have invited several other old friends to watch.

Thank you all for your kind words and vibes. Deuce and I are slowly recovering. Tears are slowly traveling down my face now instead of overflowing to the keyboard.

For those of you who don't know the details, Jagger woke me up around 4am Sunday morning and was acting very strange. He really didn't know what he wanted. I tried taking him out, giving him fresh water, even treats but he just wasn't sure what he wanted. I did get him to get up on the bed for awhile but he got down and wandered around a bit more. He finally came and lay down on the floor by my side of the bed. I fell asleep petting him.

When I woke up a couple of hours later he was dead. The vet was amazing, she came over with a stretcher and I called a friend who came over with his SUV so we could take care of Jagger.

Jagger had been fine up until this. He'd just had a complete physical last month. When he woke me up he acted like Jazz (a previous dobe) used to act after she had seizures. Jagger has had "head shakes" since we rescued him in 2001. He always was alert during these shakes so the vets said to just let him be. The vet and I have guessed that he had a full out seizure and that perhaps led to a stroke.

So...it sucks, but he was a super dog and all our rescue dogs hit the mother lode when we bring them home. He gave us some great years and we responded in kind. I think we'll be a one-dog family for awhile. jm

Jagger is wearing the blue collar

Sorry for your loss Joan. It's a shock to lose them suddenly without warning. I know you and Deuce will be a comfort to one another in the days ahead. I wish I had a chance to meet your 4 legged boy.

Joan -- I'm so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your beloved dog. Hopefully our pets' souls will also meet up with us in Heaven one day and they will come wagging their tails joyfully when they see their master/mistress. I hope someone can light a virtual candle for you to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Lori

Beautiful Dobies, both. Wait a while before you adopt another...you'll know when the time and the dog are right...meanwhile, mourn your loss, as it is a considerable one, I know. He knew something was wrong, and it was too late to do anything about it, even if you had called the vet that minute, so don't beat yourself up over it, if you considered that.
Hugs,
Bat
