Roady,
I'm downloading them all and converting them into iTunes...I'll let you know what I think of them after I get to listen to them later...I'll probably listen to them over the next week at work.

Brilliant. Thanks very much. I'm sitting doing some editing work and I can listen to each whole Janis concert as I do it. I could even put them on a CD for the car with very little effort. I do feel vaguely guily though – shouldn't Janis get something out of it for her work and creativity?

David, I was thinking the same thing and wondering, "Is this legal?" Maybe one of our more creative members could come up with a Pearl Fund money making idea.

Great find Barb, thanks. Also note that there are set lists. The one I looked at had some ??? by some of the songs (The first ?? is Ready for the War) and asked for additional information. In terms of legality, I can't say about the other artists but we've all heard Janis encourage her fans to record and share her work and this is posted on the Tour page:
Amateur audio/video taping of Janis' show portion is allowed; such tapes may not be sold or exchanged for financial considerations
As far as I can see these recordings are not being sold (and from the one I listened to not professional recordings but recordings by fans who attended the concerts). It is always an option for individuals to make a donation to Pearl (like when we take advantage of the free downloads on this site).

Di, I can't find any way to contact anyone related to this site.
Barb..thanks again, what a find! I'm listening to Phil Ochs (There But for Fortune, written in 15 minutes in back seat of a '56 Ford the way to Lincoln, NE) in 1973 in East Lansing now. Geeze I love his music and it's so nice to hear a concert. jm

or we're both crazy (but in good company)! I've downloaded a couple of Phil Ochs concerts, they come down for me as .wma files and I downloaded a free converter so I can bring them into iTunes. Not getting much else done this afternoon but really don't care. jm

iTunes will convert them for you when you import them...just drag and drop them into the library or import them by file. the program will ask if you want to convert them to import them. Slick as snot....

I've listened to a few songs here and there-didn't want to devour them all in one sitting! I think I'll have a "living room" concert every Friday night for the next few weeks. Hey maybe we can have a virtual "living room" concert if we all listen at the same time. ;)
I'll take a look to see if there's a contact person. I'm sure they would like their ?? song titles completed.
PS: If you want the set lists, search for "Janis Ian" at this link http://tela.sugarmegs.org/Default.aspx
Edited to add: You can contact Sugarmegs at this email address: peter_remove_this_nospam_part_@furthurnet.org

...on a pump handle" I tried to import but it didn't work, could be because I've got an old version of iTunes (7). I've got a new MacBookPro and will be migrating to it soon, it's got all the latest software so I'm just working with what I have on my PowerBook G4 (about 6 years old and still working fine...but there are some neat programs I can use with a faster processor...yet again I digress..)

I listened all five of these shows over the last two days and filled out the missing songs from the set lists. I'll send those off to the above email address this weekend. It was wonderful hearing all of the versions of Take no Prisoners and even Seventeen and Society's Child with a band from the early shows and then listening to the differences as Janis started touring on her own.
Reallly impressive find...I might try to duplicate the recording equipment or as close as I can get with my budget. I'd like to lose the iPod hard drive spin up sound that happens in my recordings due to my limited equipment at the moment.
