Just as I was leaving the house around 6pm (it was dark already) the mail man (I'm the last house on his route) the mailman had just finished delivering my mail. I took my mail with me as I was on my way to a performance of Janis Ian and didn't want to be late. So I opened my little manilla package when I arrived at the concert hall. And it was Janis's DVD....live from the grand center ...Janis Ian, 2008. And it was autographed none the less. I was flaberghasted that it had arrived so soon....when does Janis sleep?
Well first thing this morning, well almost first thing.....had to make some hot coffee, etc. I popped it into my DVD player. What a way to start the morning...with Janis Ian. I almost started some tea for her!
So definately get your copy of this DVD before it sells out.....it is fantastic...and it helps the Pearl Foundation! :)
Take care all and enjoy the holidays and share many blessings.

We can all come close by watching the DVD...love to see Janis playing piano, I don't think that's going to be a very common sight. jm

In Ann Arbor, there was a grand piano on the stage. Janis said seeing it really made her want to play. She went on to say that her injury prevented her from doing so. sigh We were very lucky to hear Janis play piano in
St. Louis last year. Hoping for some kind of miracle procedure to come along for Janis' hand......

(for diver boy and rudies)
My favorite recorded performance of Janis performing 'In the Winter' is from the Forum. I got a copy of the DVD...At the Forum - 1980 from Kathleen Brogan, at least I believe I did....she was one of the moderators for the auction and bookkeeper. Send her an e-mail if you want a copy of that DVD - a must own for every Janis Ian fan & 'Rudie'!
Here is a link on You Tube of a similar performance....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoegH-49OJ0...from Janis Ian SuperLive Special....the piano seems to be in synch with the emotions in Janis's voice and the heart of the song.
"extra blankets for the cold.....", boy does just that simple phrase conjure up so many images and emotions!

I saw Janis perform "In The Winter" on the piano in Atlanta at the Variety Playhouse in the early 90's. Man! She wailed on that song! It was powerful!

Gosh I wish we could see "more Janis" on the Piano. She is obviously so at ease at comfortable when she does it. I know, there is the wrist injury, but you would never know it when you watch her.

Today, I received my copy of Live From Grand Center as well as the "Who Really Cares" youthful Janis poetry book, both graciously personalized. Thank you so much, Janis and all involved! Thank you, too, for the bonus goodies!
I already have the Grand Center concert permanently saved on my DVR from the PBS airing, but getting it signed is even better! This is an extra special keepsake for me, since I was there, too! :) The next time I watch it, I'm gonna look for all you Rudies who I didn't know at the time. I know most of your faces, now! :)

The DVD was an early Xmas surprise from the woman who runs my boarding house. She didn't tell me it was from her; I had to ask.... I'm going to watch it now! Someday let's all watch the DVD at the same time... it would be like seeing Janis live with the entire klump in the audience. Then we could call each other and stay up late and pop corn, and listen to records... Fun times!! Best, E

so cool! I know personally that Janis has worked her heiney off to get these orders out as quickly as possible when she was not on the road. Janis is amazing. I don't know anyone who works so hard to please her fans.
Elliott, i think that would be fun to have a "Live at Grande Center" Party. how can we make it happen? best thing to do would be first to find a day or evening when we don't have to work that day or the next. We need this because some of us would be sleeping while others are working. maybe we need to create our own Rudie holiday. lt's think about this a bit

Hoops, we will need a save the date post and plan it way in advance. We could somehow turn it into a fundraiser! If everybody kicks in a buck or two we could draw a name to win a surprise... like a basket, or snickerdoodles, or a NEW GUITAR!!!
It could happen...

Sorry,
I tried to reply earlier...but I was timed out while looking for a link to a Janis performance on Piano of Silly Habits before I could Post. (Never found it...but I believe she performed it at the piano while 'At the Forum' in 1980 - Sorry!
So you are not alone....Tim in Ohio is out here!
Noel, my idea for the Forum fundraiser would be a special post by Janis Ian. Perhaps she would post a practice seesion at home of something that has not been recorded yet.....her Rudies would be the first to hear it!
And a guitar....awesome....if we could do that....autographed like the one donated for the last Rudie auction. Or even if she just read to us - like we are her children - a poem she has written, etc.
Janis is modest....if this were 1980 all over again...wow 29 years ago....Janis would be a giant Pop Star....we would learn of her every move....as mundane a matter as purchasing a pair of socks would not go unnoticed!!
Tim.....count me in!;)
