I just made our reservations. I tried using the name you gave
(Redjack's Jan-nic) and the woman could NOT come up with anything. Told me to call back tomorrow. I persisted as I KNEW you'd set it up and that Dar had her reservation. Anyway, for the rest of you....Say you are with
The Jan-Nic Group and you will be good to go! We'll be staying 3 nights for anyone who is thinking of staying Sunday night as well! I'm REALLY excited now!!
Thanks Redjack. That is a DYNAMITE rate for what sounds like a great place to stay!!
Marcia :) :)

Thanks for the heads up Marcia!
Kath and I stayed at this hotel before leaving for our honeymoon, Pretty nice place without being on the high-end upscale side. We hope everyone is comfortable there.

I think Ms. Peggy misses entirely too many parties! (But perhaps she's saner for that. However, come to think of it, she seems at least as wacky as the rest of us!)

Yay, another few thousand frequent flyer points gone, but we got a flight into Pittsburgh on Friday night. We are staying until the following Tuesday. I figured we may need Monday to recuperate :D Wow, I can't believe how quickly this is all happening.
Oh that's terrific Wendy!! I'm so glad you'll be arriving on Friday!!

I rang at what I thought was a decently acceptable time - 6:30PM our time. Unfortunately it was 3:30AM in Pittsburgh, however the receptionist was very civil. I wonder how she knew I was ringing from "out of town" :D Maybe it was because of my standard telephone greeting 'gidday owya goin' :D Nah, I used my office voice. Anyway, we are booked in to a Studio room.
Is there anything in particular any of the Jan-nic attendees want, either duty-free (Grog etc.) or peculiar to Australia? I intend to get myself a digital camera, as mine recently died.
This is going to be a hoot.

Man.....Pittsburg is the navel of the earth, you have the JAN-IC, thanks to great Rudies, Red and Beth. Roger Waters will be in sept. Eva you really should go, so there can be a battle between two great pirateships. It most likely will end in one bliss of happiness.......is envy beginning to creep up on me, nhahhhh uhhh I think.....:o :o I am only missing the greatest gathering in years, so what is there to envy:eek:

Sorry Redjack, I didn't get your email, so thought I'd better make the booking myself. Just so we both cancel us out, can you cancel the booking you made and I will reimburse you if there is a cancellation fee. I do appreciate your effort though, thank you.
PS I got your automated reply email. I am presently on dial-up, and have changed my address, but that shouldn't have made any difference as I still carry the old address. Sorry again.

Lucille, i'll give them a call today.. shouldn't be too hard to cancel the one booking.

Suppose it wasn't to be this time around, Gisli. Perhaps another time if i'm actually crazy enough to try to do this again :)
One question though thats been on my mind, is there such a thing as Barbecue in Iceland?

Barbecue, hmmm:confused: ..what is that:o is that a cue to go to the barber:p
Seriously, yes we have Barbecue here, mostly meat from lamb, pork and chicken, not much of beef. But what we dont have is Redjack The Barbecuer so our barbecue will never be anything more than secondery in taste to what will be offered in The Jan-ic. Mmmmm I already feel the sweet smell....envy you all going to this big fiesta.
Next time Redjack next time I will be prepaired and meet to your Jani-ic, it is fantastic what you are doing.

I'm sure Icelandic barbecue is every bit as tasty as anything i could come up with. Grilled Lamb is probably my single favorite thing, though i don't do it often. Consider yourself to have an open invitation to visit anytime, Gisli. The entertaining deck is always open and the grills are always ready.
Mike, what will be will be. Dad comes first, if he's better by the picnic time thats great, we'd love to have you come. If your place is by your dad's side.. no hard feelings at all. Take care of the important things man.. the rest will fall into place.

Well folks - it's not looking so good anymore. I've now been out of work over 3 months now and it's not looking like we'll be able to make it to Pittsburgh. We are currently living on Rachel's income and working our way through the savings account.
Believe me when I say this sucks big time. We were both really looking forward to it but I just don't think we can afford it this time around. We are already scheduled to go to Glacier National Park in Montana the 3rd week of September - and shelling out the bucks for a weekend in PA would be just plum crazy.
If I should happen to get a job in the next week, this could change, but it's not looking so good at the moment. It seems every QA Engineer in the greater St. Louis area is looking for a job these days - I'm up against some pretty stiff competition. We can't head back to New England because there's no nuclear medicine jobs open at present. What's a gal to do?!?
Oh well - it is what it is and we'll just keep trying to make the best of it.
I will let y'all know if anything changes in the next week.
Sad and big-time bummed in St. Louis,
Michelle

Sorry to hear you've lost your job Michelle and that you and Rachel might have to skip the Jan-nic. Is there anything we can do for the both of you to get you to the Jan-nic anyway? I will be pleased to donate some amount of money, maybe the rest of the attendees are willing do the same! What do you think Janis Maniacs ...
Marjan...
If I had it in me to accept money from others, I would certainly do it (if for no other reason than to hear you hum RESPECT again)...
I don't think I would be comfortable accepting such generosity. I've never been very good at being on the receiving end of things.
For the record - I didn't lose my job. I left my former employer at the end of March because I was burning the candle at both ends with no light at the end of the tunnel. They were running me into the ground. I figured I'd take a little time off, then head somewhere else. Through a series of just plain old professional bad luck events, I find myself still out of work. Something will happen soon, but I'm afraid not soon enough to make it to Pittsburgh.
Rachel and I extend our thanks for your kind and generous offer. You're so very sweet!
Michelle
So sorry you won't be able to make it to Pittsburgh. I completely understand what you're going through though! But maybe July will be THE month!!
Good luck!

If there are any Roller Coaster Lovin' Rudies - be sure to check out Kennywood Park! (Maybe Saturday evening.) There's something for everyone, but I recommend PHANTOM'S REVENGE!
PHANTOM’S REVENGE
Phantom’s Revenge is one of the fastest roller coasters in the world. Unlike most coasters, the biggest drop on this ride is not the first but the second - a whopping 230’ reaching speeds of 85 mph. The Phantom’s Revenge travels over and under the Thunderbolt with plenty of banked curves and lots of airtime. Riders must be at least 48” tall to ride.
Have fun you guys!

Well did try but was told not to try it. Wanted to send some icelandic lamb over to you for the barbecue in THE JAN-IC but was told that your Food and Drog something would keep it for inspection long enough to spoil it rotten:mad: Since I won´t be there I thought some icelandic spirit should at least be there, lamb won´t do what about "Black Death"?? That bad tasting caraway seed taste of an icelandic schnapps. Could fill a leg or two??? Intrested or too much spirit???

The FDA is apparently concerned that someone might die happy and with a full belly.. Can't have that now..
Caraway seed liquor sounds most foul indeed.... but hey, i'll sip just about anything once.. We can all swill it from Beth's leg.

Well ok then that is a dare, a fill up to Beth´s leg is on its way. Somebody have the camera ready.....
Anyways it is on it´s way hope it gets through the custom, had to fill in a form or two because of this and that just for a 4,5 liters of a horrible tasting drink made in an little island north of almost everything, legislation, legislation:o in this land of freedom......If there is trouble because of the custom let me know.....it sometimes pay´s off to live in a small country.
RedjackRyan

If its as foul tasting as it sounds, i have no doubt that Customs will allow it to pass.. figuring anyone willing to receive such a thing is not to be trifled with :D

My mom's car doesn't work right.....I started to drive it around and the check engine light and the gas goes way too fast when I pedal....sounds like she needs something new in the car - so I'm not going to be able to make it to the show tonight....too far and risky for the car to stall somewhere.... :(
Have fun guys.
