well
after a year and a half of serious depression and medical difficulties I am feeling good about myself.... and for this I thank many people including several rudie friends... Dee, Anne, Agnes, Eva, Marjan etc
I now feel like dating again for the first time in a long time, and (as you know Dee and Agnes) have met someone on the internet who lives down in London... and am starting do get flutterings in the stomach.... we have arranged to meet in London in 2 weeks' time. We have chatted a lot on the net and the phone, and quite simply he is gorgoeus.
Well anyway all I wanted to say is that even if this new date doesn't work I am so pleased to feel that I may be able to date again.
Big thanks above all to Dee, a true friend xxx

That's wonderful for you, David! I'm glad to hear things are working out for you. Its funny how life throws in little snags every now and then that make us want to give up...fortunately there are people like those here whose kind words are just enough to overcome any obstacle! Best of luck to you, David! :)

thanks sister rose
my only problem is that he doesn't know the problems I have with debt etc but I suppose I can talk about those when we have got to know each other.
it seems silly to say that a singer and her website have helped me through some very tough times but we all know how great it is to be a rudie...

I don't think he needs that much info at this time, David.....it should have no bearing on how you feel about each other and I'm sure there are things he hasn't told you yet...give the relationship time to grow and learn about each other gradually!
we all know how great it is to be a rudie...
Can't argue with that! ;)

"we all know how great it is to be a rudie..."
Absolutely! Was just talking to another Rudie the other day (I won't mention any names, RJ!! ;) ), and we were agreeing what a wonderful (and strange!) place this MB is, and how we have some terrific friends because of it.
So happy to hear you are feeling better!

David,
I am sure no truer words have been about yourSELF. Good luck on the date and I agree with you and all others. Just take it one date at a time. No need to pour it all out . . .

Good luck David. But remember its perfectly common for everybody for dates to not go so well. Don't depend on it working. Instead, just depend on yourself to give it a real chance. Its just a chance, no more than that. If it works- great. If it doesn't, oh well. The important thing is: you can't win if you don't play. Give it a chance.

ps. I met My Lady on the only blind date I ever had in my life. They can really work. I'm proof of it.

Cherish the ocean of tumbling dolphins in your stomach, David :) I hope your date will be the best ever!
Awww shucks David, you’re getting me all farklempt. LOL
I'm with Rose. Discussing finances on your first date isn't necessary.
Just have fun and keep your wits about you. He "looks" nice yes, but it's what's on the inside that matters. You know, the liver, the brain, :p but most importantly the heart! (You know what I'm saying.)

Enjoy the whole dating experience David, even if it doesn't lead anywhere it is another big step on your road to recovery. How could he not think you're as special as we all do?
I agree with Rose too, everyone has some sort of baggage; he doesn't need to know everything yet.
Take care, and have fun!

Wow, I remember the excitement of going on a date! The butterflies -- hope you have a lot of fun!
My partner and I met through a classified newspaper ad in 1979, which I guess was that era's equivalent of the Internet. And we've been together ever since. It's safer not to count on him being the one -- but you never know.
I'm very glad to hear you're feeling better. Sending good thoughts and best wishes your way.

Damn David! And this after all the hard work I did to ruin your life!
But seriously... I'm very happy for you. Have a good time with this gorgious guy.
And don't listen to Mixty... I want to hear them first!

well you know what... although today he sent me several text messages and a few messages on the website we met on, he didn't turn up for our chat on skype....
now he wasn't hiding as he was visible on that site and on msn.... I could have buzzed him asking him where he was, but instead I just logged off and thought "oh well, we'll chat tomorrow"....
is this me???
it feels so good to be so relaxed.
David, so happy to hear you are feeling better and feeling up to tackling the dating world again!!
There could be any number of reasons why he didn't make your chat, don't let it bother you.
Just have fun and save any discussions of baggage....which we ALL have...for later dates after you've gotten to know each other better.
Keep us posted!!
ps...don't forget, you're pretty darn gorgeous yourself!

well, I had my date down in London on Sunday... and what can I say except :) :D :)
I bought new clothes for the event lol went down to London where I arrived early so he told me to go to the shop where he worked so I could wait there till he finished.
He looked exactly like his photos (always a good sign lol) and we hit it off immediately... we went for a few drinks, then a meal, then a few more drinks. We met at 4pm and parted at 11pm and there was hardly a silent moment... I knew things must be going well when at about 9 he looked at his watch and said "is it that late already? I must be having a really nice time..."
A very genuine, very nice guy... we will definitely be meeting again- he has already asked me when I can make it down to London again.
It's given my confidence a huge boost.. obviously I don't know what the future holds, but it's off to a very good start :)

we had a great chat this evening and he was suggesting coming up next week on wednesday.. I am thinking on the one hand this will be great as we get on great... but I am afraid of things going too fast.... oh I don't know what I am afraid of ....
well I suppose I am afraid of feeling that I need to show him where I live... he is an interior architect and I have a small bedsit....
really looking forward to seeing him, he's obviously interested in me as he's wanting to come up to nottingham for the day....
Dear dear David,
How many times can I say it? Relax dear man. He said he was coming to see you, not to evaluate your living quarters!
(((HUG)))
And David, don't forget you have a wonderful pet: Janis the Bee. Remember her? She is quite special.

I'd join in with the rest in urging you to relax, David, but I'll bet all the others know it isn't possible as well. Just do the best you can, be the best you can, and if the tension gets high enough that you start dropping things and the like, you'll be able to tell a lot by whether you're both able to laugh about it.
Remember....he's most likely about as "calm" as you are.
Things can't possibly go as badly as they did on one of my blind-dating adventures. We'd spent hours talking by phone and agreed to meet; she asked me to pick her up as she said she had no car. So....I went to the address she had given me, knocked on the door....and her husband opened it.

second date was tonight... my italian friend came up to Nottingham from london for the day.... we had a great day... really don't know if this will be friendship or relationship but in fact I don't care- either will be great... we spent 9 hours together today with hardly a silent moment....
as we said goodbye at the station he said "we have to do this again soon"
that's a big boost to my confidence again :p
ps he is very gorgeous tho :p

oh Eva, as my friend and I waited for the bus today, we saw a large bee dying in the road... could this have been my pet bee janis dying of jealousy?
ps for anyone who does not understand this, it refers to a phone conversation I had with Eva while a very large bee was flying around me.....no, I didn't think you'd understand lol
second date was tonight...
Second date????? But David, you are gay...!

Glad to hear things are going so well, David. Good luck to you and your friend!:)
My what good taste you have David. ;)
It's always a good sign when you can spend so much time with somebody and never run out of things to talk about!! I'm with everybody else, don't worry about whether you are moving toward a FRIENDship or an official RELATIONship, as an honorary pirate, you will find happiness on either ship (sorry couldn't resist ;) ). Plus I know plenty of 'just' friendships that somehow magically became something more. I think there's a few of us on the board who can speak to that experience, myself included.
Good luck in whatever direction the ship sails!! Either way it sounds like you are having some serious FUN!
