View Full Version : Love Windows 7 but can't install Java!!
It's driving me bonkers! I've tried nine ways to Sunday to install Java, and it simply won't install...and this is on a brand new installation of Windows 7 from a disc. Everything else works very well, and it's smooth as silk...but nothing I can do can get Java to install, not any platform. I'm going to have to pay some tech to tell me how to do it, I guess, unless someone here has an answer...speak up quickly, as I can't stand it much longer!!

I hope one of our software techies can come to the rescue! She really is frustrated with this...and Java isn't my specialty!!
Thanks.
Marcia :)

Sorry, can't be of any help, Bat.
I gave up coffee about the same time I stopped smoking...not on purpose, just didn't make any. Have been rediscovering the joys of tea and found a great asian market nearby where I can get some really good China teas, restaurant tea, Oolong, etc. Once in a great while I'll still have a cuppa java and enjoy it, but for now, tis tea for me!
Meanwhile I do hope someone can solve my Java problem...Sun doesn't have a clue, and MS isn't mentioning it anywhere. Bah!

I highly concur, Coffeegyrl!! :) and I don't do "Java" either.... but I still like you, Sally.
OK...so, by some fluke and workaround, I got Java 6, update 17, to install!
Then, whenever I tried to go to a site that used it, the screen would do a whiteout, dim, and all would be done...reboot.
AOL wouldn't work at all, despite all the fixes. Finally, it just was on a loop with the "AOL has discovered a problem..." little screen in the upper left, it would do the fix, the AOL screen would come up, be totally unresponsive, and the fixit screen would reappear...ad nauseum. It was fun to try to close it all down, but finally did, did the whole list of instant fixes, but to no avail.
I uninstalled Java, but by that time, AOL was so screwed up it wouldn't do anything but run around the loop. So I uninstalled them both.
Then I installed Java anew, and went and got the newest version of AOL and installed that...Voila! I now have my AOL back and Java working on everything! Whew...what a nightmare! Perseverence is a virtue, but it drives ya nuts. Especially when one is not a techie, not nearly!!

THAT (AOL) is your main problem. (No offense intended.)
True, AOL may have been a problem. But if it was, then so was Explorer 7, because Java wouldn't install on either...or Mozilla, for that matter...which makes me think that there was a major bug in the Java program that was incompatable with any other program! Obviously, they fixed it, AOL upgraded to match, Explorer works with it, as does Mozilla, and all is right with the world.
In this case, I don't believe it was AOL at all, unlike with past problems.
I have very little trouble with it, actually, and it does everything I want, I know how to get around in it, it has great programs, and I don't find much wrong with it. Like any other program, when it screws up, it screws up royally..only, with this problem, Java screwed up royally.
The good thing about both of them, they fix things. I'm happy now.
