I thought it would be nice to start a roll call of those going to shows in the Netherlands this October, like we did for the UK tour earlier this year. There was such a sense of camaraderie then that it would be great oif we could reproduce it!

pssst! I trust the Dutch rudies to create a great atmosphere!

Denise, the Netherlands are a small country. (I call driving for three hours to the east 'going abroad'...) It's not that hard to travel to lots of shows here. Cool!

Janis, how about popping over to the UK for one little show while you are in the Netherlands and Belgium?:p

Hi Rachel, on the second page of the above thread Eva gives the name of a hotel which I think Gisli stayed at last time. Rowy and Lynda are staying there in October, we have a good friend in the same area so are staying with him.

The Amsterdam venue is actually out near the airport, but is very well serviced by trams from the city (about 10 minutes) so it's up to you which area you stay in.

Anne

Eva

I am curious if Gisli stayed in hotel Van Onna or in a different one? And how he liked it.

Eva

06-10-2006, 06:35 PM
Ahhh no I didnīt get to stay at Hotel Van Onna since they where all booked up at the time when I was in Amsterdam. We found another hotel that was simple and well located but I wouldnīt recomend it to anyone.

Now Eva and Anne since you brought me to this thread there is most likely that I will go to another Janis concert this fall.
Staying at the same hotel with those that come a long way would also be so great if possible.

But it is also possible that we go to another country..........just a thought, we will see how things go.

Eva
06-11-2006, 07:04 AM
Gisli,

That is indeed an idea. I am sure you will have a good time together in Amsterdam. And a Janis concert! Yay! I'd have a present like that anytime.

However, in October the weather is usually wet, windy and miserable in the Netherlands. Skies are grey all the time. Very depressing. If I were you I'd go for Greece. Or another sunny place. The south of Spain for instance. Lovely cities, mountains, good weather...

Ok back to this. I am not making the same mistake as to buy the tickets to a Janis Ian show unless I am "really" sure where I am sitting. De Meervaart Theater does not allow you to choose a seat through the internet ordering, so I was wandering if any of you in Netherlands can help me about whom to contact through email so I can make a "numbered seat" order. There are some strange word in the email adresses they give up on the web page.

Eva
06-17-2006, 10:06 PM
Gisli, through the internet you can't ordered a numbered seat. I noticed that with the Meervaart the seats are on a 'first come, first served' base. I ordered my ticket very early and I have a seat on the first row (YAY! ) If you want more information about wich seats are still available, it's best to call them. Most people here speak English, so I don't expect it to be a problem. The telephonenumber can be found on their website. If you need more help from me then let me know.

Eva, thank you as always for the time and effort and your help directing my and giving me advice, should have answered you earlier, but I have decided to go with my daughter to the concert in Rotterdam where I have seats on the second row,:D :D thanks to one heck of a nice Rudie here on this board.

Amazing and helpful people you are there in the Netherlands, real gems each and everyone of you.

Just ordered a Janis Ian denim shirt and T-shirt so I can have a quarrell on my own to my self on wich to wear in the concert.

By my daughterīs request (itīs here birthday)we will be in Amsterdam from the 6th and in Rotterdam from the 8th and leaving on the 10th back home. So only one concert for me this time sitting nearer to the stage than the last time, THANKS AGNES.:D

Geula, couldnīt resist, had to go to another Janis Ian concert, canīt help it, guess I am a HOOKED..ER.

Hi all.

Is the hotel mentioned above still the best one?
Thanks!

Is the hotel mentioned above still the best one?

The best one? I don't know... It isn't very fancy or anything and the breakfast is simple. I don't think it has internet for the guests or something. The rooms are simple. And any hotel in an old building in Amsterdam has steep stairs and usually no elevator.

However, it's in a central area (Jordaan) but in a quiet street with a view on a canal. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly, the hotel is completely smoke-free (for those who value that) and the owner likes peace and quiet, so no loud music or loud neighbours.

And you can book a room with your own bathroom and shower. And on top of all this: it's one of the cheapest ones I have found. Most hotels in Amsterdam that are this central ar much more expensive. This one is 45 euro's per person per night. Other hotels usually start at 75 euro's per person per night and don't neccesarily offer anything more fancy than this hotel.

That's all! :)

Ok here we go again. I had to shange my days of arrival and departure to Netherland I now have booked the airfair so there will be no change after this. The new schedule allows me to go to 3 concerts with Janis The one in Rotterdam is for sure, I will also be in Netherlands when she plays in Deventer and Zoetermeer. Now you who know better about where these places are in the country, is it long to travel between them for excample if I am staying in Rotterdam or Amsterdam???? Do the trains run like all day and all night or do they stop and go to sleep sometime during the day???
Just thinking aloud about this, would just love to see her 3 times in a row, gee Janis.....what is your music doing to me?? I am turning into a Janis "Junkie"

gisli you are not the only one... I have seen janis 4 times so far this year and planning 3 more in the netherlands.....

marjan

Gisli I looked for the train scedules. It seems to me you be best of to stay in a hotel in Rotterdam.

It's totally up to you when you want to leave from Rotterdam to Deventer or Zoetermeer, but ....

Best and last train from Deventer to Rotterdam is at 11.14pm with one stop over - arriving in Rotterdam at 1.13am
Best train from Zoetermeer to Rotterdam is at 11.39pm with one stop over - arriving in Rotterdam at 0.16am

Seems to me good times for staying after the concert for signing etc. :D

And as Eva lives in Rotterdam she might give you some advise for hotels

gisli
07-04-2006, 06:58 PM
Thanks Marjan for your response, you have shown me that this is doable. I will most serdenly now try to go to more than one concert. There is one catch though... and that is buying train tickets through them ticket machines... I have been searching for Hotels in Rotterdam, not many rooms available at this time (oct) but I havnīt searched a lot, as of yet. Thanks Marjan.

And David you are right...European JAN-IC in oct.....you stand the watch on the barbecue grill:) get ready for that:p

Hey the strangest thing happened this week. In short my middle son wanted also to come and see Janis in Rotterdam so I needed to buy an extra ticket to the show, in doing that I made a spelling mistake for my E-mail, forgot to put one number in my phonenumber and apparently also gave up a wrong home address when ordering the ticket (go figure, but that is me: simple, slow but handsome and beauteful (when covered in clay)).

So of course I got a litle worried when my conformation did not come through and contacted the Luxor Theather and guess what......I got in contact with a very polite and helping person, she introdused herself as Elín and explained to me that she had been trying to locate me for a long time in order to send me my ticket without any result of course.

So we sorted that out, but because I am curious I asked her if she was Icelandic because her name is common here in Iceland and sure enough she was named after an Icelandic woman and also had lived in Iceland for two years. She also told me that she had relatives here that she was going to visit next month and not only that, she would also be coming to my part of the country on her way to Reykjavík. She felt very tempted to deliver the tickets personally and I told her to do so and have a cup of coffe with us, I just hope she does. Now this is what I call a good service.

And now there will be three of us coming to the Rotterdam show.:D

Ps thank you Eva for your information, they came in handy.
