View Full Version : Something New with You Tube Videos

I went to my You Tube site to approve a comment on one of my videos, and I noticed a new button called "Copyright Info," which informs me that my video may contain copyrighted material - Ethel Merman singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from the soundtrack of the stage musical "Gypsy."
Here is the interesting part, when my video is played now, there is a little commercial text at the bottom of the screen identifying the song and a link so you can "Buy the MP3." I think this is a GREAT idea. What I want to know is, what is the process for doing that? I would love to see that added to all the Janis videos on You Tube. If I know Janis, I bet she is already on top of this. If not, here's the head's up.

Oak, that's a GREAT idea! Hope you find out how to do it - let me know if we need to do anything on this end. We're pretty short staffed, but there's always the 3 am slump...

It's actually automatic! I did absolutely nothing but upload and "At Seventeen" showed as available for purchase on Amazon & I-tunes on one of the "Song to Soul" videos. It must be an automatic web search that happens and adds the songs. Believe me, I could never figure out how to do it myself. Also You-Tube emailed me that Sony owns the rights to the video too, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. They also didn't request that I remove the clip, so I was happy about that!
Hope this helps -
Kathleen
P. S. The video poster does not profit from the song purchase, oh well :)

Kathleen,
Sony owns the rights to the "Gypsy" soundtrack as well. Perhaps Sony is driving this - will have to look and see if any other publishers show up on other videos. Anyway, from what I have read, You Tube has not been making any money, but I think this development may well make it profitable, and hopefully some of that profit will redound to the benefit of the artists.

Best of all, according to the site, Block, Monetize, or Track Viewing Metrics — It's Automated, and It's Free
Free is good.
Well I guess we know what Janis will be doing at 3AM . . .
