Huge storm yesterday, struck right while I was driving to my riding lesson. All the horses were inside, the power went out for a little while, but finally it died down enough that I had a riding lesson. However, going back home through another town, I suddenly came to a place (a place where while I was learning to drive someone almost hit me) where there were no more traffic lights! They were all there, just black. Everyone ended up treating it like a stop sign, going counter clockwise for turns. Everyone was polite out of sudden fear for the situation. That was not the only light either, the next five lights going through town were out! I stopped at one (the one for the grocery store, no one was letting out these poor people who were trapped in there waiting for traffic lights that wouldn't come) and then the others had no one waiting, so I continued home. As a semi-new (got my license a month ago, though I have made several long trips since) driver I hoped nothing else was amiss, and I continued home without further incidence.
I got home and found a tree in my usual parking lot, they had cut it down, but could not remove it during the storm. Today, from the news, we learned that a huge pine tree was the cause... it hit five cars and two poles, one with a transformer.
