around these parts today was the first day of school for children. Growing up, it was the worst day of the year, i wish i had a Simon.
Simon is my nephew, he is 6 years old and in 1st grade. He went to his bus stop with older brother Jackson, excited about the new year and all it holds. while waiting, Simon noticed a neighbor boy who looked a little nervous. My sister watched as Simon went over to the boy ( who vomited in the mean time) and put his arm on the boy's shoulder. he made sure the bot was clean and all the while he talked to him about how fun the bus ride is, about the boy's teacher and how Simon had her last year as a teacher and how nice she is and that she had a baby. he kept talking and helped him on the bus and sat in his seat with him. later the report came back that Simon held his had on the entire bus ride and even took him to where he needed to go when they arrived. I love all of my neices and nephews equally, today Simon, a very deep and wise and sweet boy stood out and i think he deserves the praise. there is a LOT to him, but nothing is bigger than his heart.

Awwwww - poor little guy. What a nightmare for him. Bless Simon for being such a good guy. I'm thinking that's pretty rare these days amongst kids.

Way to go, Simon! Kudos also to your parents. It is so refreshing to see empathy and compassion in children. Empathy is a valuable skill that will serve Simon well throughout his life. I see more and more self-centered children each year (I work in a school) who aren't held accountable and are treated as if the world revolves around them. They grow up without a thought to another person's discomfort or struggles. I'm thankful for the children like Simon who remind me that there are plenty of fantastic young people out there who can connect with others on an emotional level, and go the extra mile to help relieve their stress. Simon is on the right track!
