OK, I know this is far-fetched. But y'all are RUDIES. So I thought I would just "put it out there" and see if anything happens.
Many of you know we are awaiting a new arrival. "Glinda" the birman kitten will be ready to come home around July 20th when she'll turn 3 months old. We have a logistics problem. If we were in good health we would go to pick her up. Problem: The kitten breeder is in PA, a bit northeast of Pittsburgh. We are in SW Ohio near Cincinnati. I have vertigo and painful neuropathy. Bat is in the midst of chemotherapy. 8 years ago when we got another kitten from this breeder, we met them near Youngstown. Still, that is about a
4 1/2 hour drive for us.....and we can't do it!
The breeder's husband *might* be willing to bring her here but it will be expensive. I'm dickering on a price right now. I've looked into professional pet transport services and they are over the MOON expensive! It is about 290 miles from the breeder's home to ours.......ideas?! Anybody?!

Maybe Randy and Betty are willing to go on another ROADTRIP, that is if they are recovered from the trip to Nashville
I would love to pick up the kitten myself, but then you have to visit me in the Netherlands to see it again. So I guess that isnīt an option for you.

While I'm sure Randy would love to offer if the trip were not as long.... but I think that may be an awful long roundtrip for Randy & Betty probably like 1200 to 1500 miles .... plus it's during their "concert season" ... so I don't think that would be doable; and since Betty's legs are giving her a problem long driving trips are a pain.... I was glad to be able to help out on our trip to Nashville, while Betty was napping in the back.
Can you imagine being in a car with Randy for 12 hours? :D

Sure wish we could help, but Patrick is terribly allergic to cats. We could transport around August 1st if someone can suggest a way to allergy proof my other half. Actually we'll be driving from the Poconos to Kansas City and it wouldn't be that inconceivable.

Actually, I talked to Pat and if the breeder can meet us somewhere near I-80 and you could meet us somewhere near I-70 (on Aug. 2) and the cat is in a carrier, we can probably keep her in the back end of the SUV without too much trouble.

Hey Les, a friend of mine was really allergic to my sweet Abby, Lucy, but a mutual friend - a doctor - suggested drinking brandy! It seemed to do the trick, and she really enjoyed her time with Lucy.:D Of course she ended up pissed! Just sayin'...... Probably better if you drive;)

I got this off of a woman's webpage:
Hypoallergenic
Cat allergies affect approximately 10 million Americans and are twice as common as dog allergies. There are more cats in this country, 90 million in 60 million households, than any other pet. Scientists will insist that the hypoallergenic cat is fiction, but many people who have never been able to have a cat due to allergies will attest to the fact that they can tolerate a Birman or a Siberian just fine, my husband being one of them.
You guys are very sweet. We're still working on getting Glinda around
July 20th but if that doesn't happen, we will very much consider your generous offer. The breeder wouldn't supply a carrier so you would have to have one....a larger dog carrier would be ok. But we'll have to play all of this by ear.
Another Rudie has generously offered to meet the breeder in Columbus. However, this is still a long drive for the breeder and he would still charge money to do this so I say, if it is going to cost the same amount, then let him come all the way here!!! Needless to say, there isn't a final arrangement here yet.....still hoping for the ideal!
Marjan......:)

As loose as my screws may be, brandy actually does act as a pleasant antihistamine - true dinkum.:)
Karen, you'll keep!!!!!

:::::::::::::::NOTE to SELF::::::::::::::::
Brandy is an antihistamine.
Chocolate is a vegetable.
Cherries a anti-inflamatory.
Can you see where this is going?

You've got it Amy, and I'm sure an old oak cured Port would have to be good for the throat. As a matter of fact I think I'll have one right now (it's nearly 10PM here):D

Hey, Bat.... last night as I was driving home... I think I spotted you and two of your relatives flying up above my car in the dusk of the early evening air ... Were you stretching your wings and "cruising" over CT?
Don't I just wish!! But it won't be long until I'm flying high again, I bet!

I am DEATHLY allergic to cats. I have been known to have reactions from hugging a cat owner, swear to God. I had no idea that Brandy was an antihistame. Wendy is that really true. Like I need an excuse to drink. HA!

Hah, it must be an Italian thing. My allergic friend is Italian. She once looked after my house(?) and cats - Sting and Chloe, chocolate pointed siamese, and she kept (and drank) the brandy for the allergy. Unfortunately, one night she must've been having a particularly bad time with the runny nose, eyes and sneezing, and had to take more than a wee dram, because she went to sleep with a candle burning. Yep, she managed to burn half the carpet before she woke up! She didn't tell me about it until I got home from my holiday and found new carpet in my living room.
The cats were fine.:)
(Marcia, I got the subject back to cats - hopefully I am forgiven for partly hijacking the post.;))
