View Full Version : We're havin' a heatwave
This day has been long one. So hot and humid that I feel literally drained after being out in it much of today (but I had no choice.)
Currently it's 30°C and feels like 38°C with 55% humidity in the air.
Tomorrow is expected to be more of the same.
Thank goodness I got my mega air conditioner a while back, or I'd be baked salmon in my apartment by now.

That's more than we have Dee. No AC, just one rusty fan. I feel like I'm back in the '70's again baking the summer away in my Father's house.
Ottawa has cold wet winters (the worst kind) and hot humid summers (the worst kind). We're just lucky I guess.
:p
I think the reason we get such high humidity here Moe, is the rivers and the inner city lake. At least it isn't snow. :o LOL

*sends some cold weather your way*
This past weekend, I don't think we broke 60°F over here in Western Washington... Today was lovely--70s, beautiful blue sky, not a drop of rain in sight......... and I had to be at work and class all day. Phooey.
If what people say is true about the summers here, I'm looking forward to it. Apparently 85°F is "hot" and very humid is something like 50%. I tell people to go spend August in New Jersey and then complain to me ;)

At this very moment, it's all of 12°C here. That would be about 53 F. It's been like this for days now and my feet are telling me it's not going to change the next three days :p
Today's projected high is 31°C or 87°F, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Oh Dee! Thunderstorms? Record them for me? How I miss thunderstorms... sitting next to big window, watching the afternoon rain come down, seeing lightning and then waiting for the thunder. The rain squalls pushing through. Or better yet, waking up to a thunderstorm in the middle of the night and watching in awe for the next 20 minutes as it passes by, then going peacefully back to sleep. And the way your whole world smells so... fresh after a good summer thunderstorm after the oppressive heat has broken and it's now much cooler.
We don't get many thunderstorms like that here. I heard just a few claps of thunder the other day, but nothing major. Just rain :(

the weather is crazy- about 15c here in Nottingham now
Dee and Moe, didn't anyone tell you- Ottawa is the new California
Rotterdam: windy, rainy & cold. How I miss summer...

It's very hot and muggy in central PA. But we had a great thunderstorm last night. I love them too...and I'm grateful our cat has gotten over being terrified of them!
It might as well be the Carribean here today. *drip drip*
Why anyone would pay to go to this kind of climate on purpose I beyond me.
Dee, try living in the Netherlands for some years. You'll love heat. I promise.
The Dutch have an interesting custom, by the way: with the first sunrays after the winter, everyone takes off their clothes to catch some of sunlight. It doesn't matter how cold it is. The following week half the population has a horrible cold. But they have been sunbathing!

the weekend was lovely and in the 90 F range and about the 98 humidity range. hazy hot and humid, that is what upstate NY summers are all about... kinda like florida but only 3 months a year and i love it. If i could be out all day in it i would. i don't have ac and when i turn on the fan, i have to pull up and extra blanket. of course dad has the big ole pool right out in his back yard so anytime i want to i can jump right in. gosh i love the summer!peace

Hi Ponytail.....love them too....kinda romantic. And we have one cat under the bed and one that likes to sit in the window and watch....LOL. I dont' think the "fraidy" cat will ever get over them.

We have been promised a heatwave for June.
And we get very dramatic thunderstorms here now. We don't get them as often, but very dramatic.
Last year we had one where the fork lightning was flashing on the hills every 3 or 4 seconds for an hour with the loudest thunder I have ever heard.
It frightens the hoolihound terribly. I have to give her rescue remedy to calm her.
Following last evening's brief thunderstorm and an overnight rain, it no longer feels like I'm living in one large moist armpit. LOL
Currently it's 19°C (66°F)and overcast with light rain.
Just got back from the mall next door, and let me tell you, it's a whole new fresher world out there.

Just don't EVER have a "fraidy cat" on your lap during a thunderstorm.
From one who knows......

I just heard that our choir rehearsal tonight is cancelled because of the heatwave. All the air conditioned spaces at church are spoken for...
Don't know whether to be happy or sad, but at least I won't be hot!

I'm with you Hoops, i love the weather we've been having. Perfect outdoor barbecue season is upon me.
 You should have been here two days ago then. You could have grilled on the open sidewalks without a BBQ! ;)
