View Full Version : a review in Curve!!
Well it wasn't much BUT this month's Curve magazine has a review of FITNB.
If you blink you miss it............
>>>FOLK IS THE NEW BLACK, JANIS IAN (RUDE GIRL/COOKING VINYL)
Coming full circle from her humble folk beginnings in the mid-1960's when she stunned the world with her controversial interracial relationship ode "Society's Child," the outspoken singing-songwriting legend returns - 40 years and 23 albums later-with a new 15-track collection of mellow, contemplative and mostly personal songs that prove she's still got it after all these years. Surprisingly, only the first two cuts on the disc are overtly political: "Danger Danger" offers a gentle warning about the perils of censorship, prejudice and blind patriotism, while "The Great Divide" is a call to arms, beckoning listeners to challenge political corruption and religious hypocrisy. The remainder of the disc is filled with heartbreak ("All Those Promises"), self-examination ("Standing in the Shadows of Love") and whimsical self-deprecation ("My Autobiography"), with only a few misses-mainly the silly title track-that makes for a strong showing and maintains Ian's status as an insightful, eloquent and often humorous observer and critic of the world. (janisian.com)<<<
Now let me add that this review was under their Music Watch section in the June edition. Under Pride Festival Favorites......queer artists in various stages of their careers, whom you just might see on the Pride festival circuit this year.......Janis is described as a veteran lesbian singer songwriter who's seen and done it all and just keeps on ticking. Now what I want to know is, how does one become a veteran lesbian? ;)

Let me think Dar... I guess staying alive long enough?

Perhaps Janis did a stint in the military that she hasn't told anyone about? Or would that make her a "lesbian veteran"?
Naturally, I'd like to know whether honorary lesbians can become veterans as well, and just how one goes about reaching this coveted status. But perhaps it can't be discussed on a public message board.
Thank you Dar for posting the Curve review. I was going to ask if there was a link to it, if not. ;)
Maybe it's because love and war are so close together that one can become a veteran in both?
honorary lesbians
Dave (and everybody else) I stick to the fact that one has to be a woman or girl to be a lesbian. Hummus and partingrituals that take a looooooong time are optional. Really.

Eva, no you donīt.........really, we live in a world of miracles. I can tell you a story of a man here in my country who became a woman, that became a lesbian. Surgery, honey, surgery.
I bet you could become a man, if you wanted to........take this as a challange: Men are better pirates. :) :D ;)
Hi Dee!
I had hoped to find a link when I first posted the note about the review. No such luck. Curve has a website, but it doesn't really have much of what the actual paper copy does.

I think I'm in over my head.
No, people, no pun intended.
I can tell you a story of a man here in my country who became a woman, that became a lesbian. Surgery, honey, surgery.
Ah! But that means that in the ens she is a woman. In wich case she can be a lesbian...
I bet you could become a man, if you wanted to...
What? And not be a lesbian anymore? I don't think so!
Men are better pirates

well i have a friend who is a physcally a male and for the most part dresses as a male, on occation when he is with people who accept him for who he is he will wear womens underclothing. he would love3 to have the surgery but can't afford it or the hormone therapy that goes with it...yet he still considers himself as a woman and as a lesbian...oh and he is in love with me and i am a lesbian. well with all that confusion aside I am a woman and tho i am a lesbian i do not and never have wanted to be a man. ok that confusion aside too. shoot gay people fight a war in almost every area of their lives so i guess we are all veterans. too much confusion my head is beginning to ring like a tibetan dinging bowl.
