New Hampshire does the right thing (http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/06/nh_legislature.html)

This means that all 4 states that I have lived in have legalized gay marriage.

I always loved living and visiting in New England...the only civilized place East of San Francisco/ points North on the left coast (and that is not all-inclusive)

Well, Amy, you must be living right! Let's hope the other 44 wake up and join the civilized world, soon!

After the House vote, Barbara Haines, 54, of Manchester, whispered, "Repent, repent," to people passing by her in the State House halls.

The poor simple creature, as my boyfriend would say.

Congratulations to New Hampshire!

Pretty soon there'll be enough of a bloc to secede to Canada if the rest of the country doesn't wake up.

Hooray! Now Michelle and I have to figure out what happens to the civil union we had in August. We're so confused!

All I can say is keep an eye on the rules. For example, my employer stopped recognizing civil unions when Massachusetts legalized same sex marriage. To get dependent benefits, you need to be legally married.

And here in Virginia, my employer will say that you aren't domestic partners if you get married even though it isn't legal here to be married. So, to make sure we keep our access to domestic partnership insurance we aren't doing anything till it's legal everywhere...

I looked into it today, and it seems that all civil unions that are still on the books on January 1, 2011 will automatically become marriages. You can have your civil union changed to a marriage at any time, but it will automatically happen even if you do nothing.

I checked my hospital's benefits (Michelle is on my insurance), and they have already changed the wording to include same-sex marriage as well as civil unions. I think they changed it when Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriage. Looks like we're good to go. I guess Michelle and I will soon be hitched! We weren't planning to change it, but I guess it's going to happen anyway. I'm just proud to have the option.

Rachel, that is absolutely amazing. I truly did not think it would happen in my lifetime.
