Where can I get identity theft protection? I had my purse stolen, and I am very concerned about someone using my identity.

Because someone with a differnet user name is already using your IP address to respond to your posts! With a different name, e-mail address and everything! Your IP address must have been in the purse!!
"The phone calls are coming form inside the house!!! Get out now!"
I guess it's gratifying to know that the board is popular enough that a spammer like yourself would take the time to create two sock puppets just to get an advertisement on the board.
And to the rest of the board members, thanks for the post reports for stuff like this.

I am a moderator on another messageboard and find that when the first post has nothing to do with the site - it's usually spam. Whose first post on a Janis Ian site would be "how do I protect my identity...?" I read the post after it (it's gone now) and of course the sock puppet recommended a product - with a link so we could easily purchase. :D

"One never knows when the sock-puppet is about." Part II ;)
Maybe if Janis has a sock puppet she can tour the west coast too!

LOL Andrea!:)
It's guys like that who give sock puppets a bad name........ ;)
I mean, come on, kids LOVE them. :D

Never respond to a strange sock puppet without permission from your parent, teacher or priest! ;)
I could use one of these when I don't get my way at home and at work. Just pull the little sock out and it can say, "Yea, what she says!" I'd win every argument! :p
The possibilities are endless really...should I buy another cd or pay my phone bill...sock puppet says, "why do you need to listen to a telemarketer on the phone when you can listen to a new cd?"
Should I go to work or call in "again"...sock puppet says, "this should be an official day off anyway." :)

Surely, a Rude Girl sock puppet would be a great promotional item, not to mention a nice addition to the Merchandise page.
I shall happily donate some old socks (washed, mind).

Dave M, have you forgotten? Janis wants us to request merchandise items that only regular people would want! ;)

Yeah, there is that....it's just that I'm still getting used to the fact that I'm simply not a regular person. Strange, I should be comfortable with it by now.
Mind, there is a shop not far from here which has dedicated an entire area to "sock monkeys"--cards, kits, instruction books, and yes, signed artist creations. They sell quite well, so there must be other irregulars out there.
