Excellent article that sheds some light on why the New England states so readily adopted gay marriage legislation.

Yes, that is the New England attitude to a tea. "You do it your way, and I'll do it my way, thanks," in the words of one of my grandmothers, a devoutly Yankee woman. I have to say, I love New England, and will still live there when I grow older and have to make a decision about where to live.
My boyfriend was laughing, recently, while we were listening to the radio, at a debate about gay marriage. He was not laughing because it was funny, but that it was ironic, heard on his radio, since he is Canadian and has not really heard such a debate. "You would never hear that in Canada," was the jist of his words, "We already have gay marriage and that's that."
Soon enough those words will likely be in New England, also. "That's that," is a very Yankee phrase. Along with the phrase, "What's the dammage," in reference for the cost of buying something. With slogans such as, "Live Free or Die," which you'll find in New Hampshire, it's difficult not to imagine New England coming around to granting gay marriage, if only for fairness' sake.
Grudgingly granted is still granted. And that will be that for New England.

No, we don't hear it here anymore Song, but we sure talked it to death prior to putting an end to the nonsense. And happily when our current PM tried to reopen the debate in Parliament he got a resounding NO!
May every part of your country come to their senses soon and do the right thing too!

It still really goes in my finest, that Gay stole the word gay from us straight ones.......
Honestly, it really bothers me that I can´t be gay anymore.........apart from that I am ok.

AceOn6, that's an excellent, informative article. This is the first time that I have read The Boston Globe newspaper... and I really enjoyed the experience. Thanks for posting this.

Why thank you Amy...........Two of us Man-Lesbians around, what an honor, thank you. Got to learn that secret handshake.....it is not very difficult to learn, is it?
Wait a second Amy?.......Are lesbians gay?.......
I have to know, cause if they are not I would have to decline....no use of being an honorary lesbian if lesbians are not gay, is it?:p

Yeah right....like saying “Gísli is so gay today”...........is ever gonna sound the same as “Gísli is so homo today”....You, hoops, try to be gay for a day and called a homo just because you are gay..........Just plain don´t sound right.........sounds just plain confusing, if you ask me:confused:
Happy is one nice word, yes´sireeee but does not describe that happy feeling in the same way as does the word gay.
You can have happy if we are gay.
Guess I am gonna have to form a movement, something that can be called: “Give Gay To Straight´s” movement or thing.............one or another:rolleyes:
WORDPLAY IS NICE:cool:

Hey....I'm as gay as the next person (well, admittedly, a bit moody at the moment). And just like the next person, it's no one's business who I love.
I mean....I don't care if my people raised sheep. If I want to marry a cattleman's daughter, I'll do it!
If you look closely enough, everyone is a minority in one way or another.

shoot Gisli, you have a point. being gay, and a lesbian ( yes we are gay) and having a dear friend who refers to me as "homo" I really can't relate to what you are going thru. I will join with you in your Movement or fight or whatever word you like for it, it's only fair that you should have a movement too, besides it's healthy to have one.

I've never really "gotten" the term "homo". Obviously it originated as an insult, but in and of itself it is merely the Latin for "man". I have had it hurled at me a few times--when I was MUCH younger, mind and such things were hurled around on the playground or in the hallways. It stopped after I started replying: "of course--some of my best friends are people!" Completely blew the minds of the name-callers. I don't think they really "got it", but they did shut up.

Dave, it was gay day in disney about 10 years ago and i wasn't there nor were a few of my friends. we got together that night for fun of some sort and when i walked in the door i said robustly " Happy Homo Day!" and from that moment on, i became 'homo' to my friend. it can take the hurt away from the insults when they don't insult you. or something like that
