Last century, no surprise either. A couple of the questions I was looking for the old reliable "none of the above". :D

A mere 26.....sigh. I guess my geek consciousness is about the same age as half of my clothes.
Mind, not having a cell phone is a major handicap on this quiz. And they didn't ask about all the stuff I DO have attached to my TV set. Or about writing 8-bit Fortran. Or AV Club.
Maybe if I put new tape on my glasses....

I got a 24.
I live inthe boonies. Cellphone reception is unreliable, so why use it for email, imaging and messaging.
I work full time and have a house and 4 dogs. I do not have the time for games!
I watch TV alot, but mostly sitcoms and re-runs of sitcoms, plus crime shows... I hated the Matrix, I think star Trek is pretty silly.
But I am NOT stuck in the 20th centtry!

Just squeaked into the 21st century with a 30. I think my iBook might have saved me.

Or AV Club.
Maybe if I put new tape on my glasses....
Dave, that's nerd. We're going for geek here. I figure if you have enough curiosity to TRY to fix it, you're at least heading to geekdom.
Nobody in there right mind would take any of that stuff, if stranded on a desert island.
I'm stuck in the last century, so it tells me. In that case...I'll take my fav movie and a box of tissues as I figure I'm not going anywhere fast for a while.:D

I got a 38 but I didn't like all of the choices.....some of which would be neither, or 2 of the 3.....oh well.
Marcia :)

I quite agree, Marcia. I mean, if we're going to be able to take "Blade Runner" to a desert island, shouldn't we be able to specify whether we want the "original" or the later-released "director's cut"? Hmmph.

53 for me. Using IE cost me a bunch...
Director's cut of course!

37 for me. Now where did that come from?!

53 for me. I thought my answers would indicate a bit of a luddite. Who knew?

But what about people who have PCs AND Macs And home built linux boxes, plus an Amiga and an older homebuilt system running BeOS??
Or use every one of the Browsers listed, plus Epiphany and sometimes Lynx?
Who not only have a home network and can fix it, but have Checkpoint and Tripwire running in it, along with a honeypot machine to lure new script kiddies in to play with?
And what's with all the "On a desert Island" questions? The true geek wants none of these comic books, movies, TV shows...just a good system and excellent bandwidth. Wireless would be nice.
That test does not scale out to the true Ubergeek class.
I also object to the use of "Nerdy" as a synonym for "Geeky".

30 headed to Geekdom...thought it would be higher but using IE cost me muchly...

61 to 102: Seriously Nerdy
I do have to agree with John though, those questions were worthless in determining true geek status..

I agree with John L: Geeky is not a synonym for Nerdy. I've always considered myself a Nerd, rarely a Geek. There is a logical explanations for having six computers in the house, four of which are laptops. It doesn't make a Nerdacious family like mine a bunch of Geeks!

To my mind, nerd is a term better used to describe school stuff - people who read a lot, wear pocket protectors with mechanical pencils, start conversations cold with phrases like "As Proust said...".
Geeks are the computer folks.
I hold myself out as both, personally, and spend way too much time at thinkgeek.com.

Don't remember the actual numerical score but I'm apparently seriously headed to geekdom.....
because (in my view)
1) I don't have and don't ever anticipate having a cell phone with which I can take and distribute photos.
2) I'm not a gamer.

Got 80 points. Seriously Nerdy. Dosen't really surprise me. i'm the number one computer fixer in my home.
Your score is 8
0 to 29: Stuck in the Last Century
Yay! Then my mission is accomplished.
Actually, I think I'm a combination Neek or Gerd.
:p
It takes years to load on my computer. So I didn't take the quiz. I guess I might qualify as a non-geek.
I think geek don't neccesarily have to excelle in the computerarea. Any tech area will do...
As Marx had already said. Groucho, I mean...

I've risen in the ranks to 36, making me Headed For Geekdom. Now if I had a cell phone, it'd probably push me over the top.

I'm stuck in the last century, but just barely (I got a 28). But I bet they couldn't tell me which decade...

I do have to agree with John though, those questions were worthless in determining true geek status..
Agreed. They more accurately describe wealth. I've never done half of the "have you ever" questions because they all cost too much, such as texting on the cell phone, having a VoIP phone (cell phone bill is enough for me, thankyouverymuch, no landline either), sending photos over the cellphone, having a TV (don't even have rabbit ears), playing game consoles (who has time? Or, alternatively, the money?).
Instead of my score reflecting the fact that I am a true geek (one of the only luxuries that I allow myself is the cable internet--my connection to the world), it really pegged me as what I am: a poor college student living on part-time wages and lots of student loans :p

Good point, Rkitko. These really aren't about being "geeky," they're about some upscale notion of "cool."

Q: Why does the question about how many operating computers are in your house stop at four? Four isn't that many. Is it?

Q: Why does the question about how many operating computers are in your house stop at four? Four isn't that many. Is it?
The real question is how many non-operating computers, spare parts, and cables do you have in your house....
