I havent been following this development, what are the details of what Frist is proposing?

It's essentially the same thing they tried doing in the 2004 US election -- whipping up the religious nutjobs into a fervor so that they are almost guaranteed to come out and vote against anyone who doesn't support the FMA. And doesn't it figure... midterm elections are coming up quickly in November! Imagine that.

Here's the text of the proposed amendment:

1. Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman.
2. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.

And that means no civil unions, Domestic Partnerships, and certainly no marriage! I hate what this regime is doing to this country! With or without marriage (preferably with), I just want my America back!:(
