OMG! I'm a WINNER!

Yep, the phone call this morning let me know that I won "3rd prize of $2.5 million dollars!!" ME! I won it in a "Global Lottery" something-or-other! The caller was from another part of the world. He called me "Kah-ren REE-dick."

When asked how I felt, I said, "Suspicious." Well, why would I feel that way?
I let the person know that I had not entered any global lottery, and I was promptly assured that it was because it had come through Reader's Digest. (OK, I'll play along...)

I was given a number to call and my prize number. I called back, and got the same accent that I can't quite place. Same story. I've won $2.5 million, all tax-free, mind you! We all know that the US Government approves that kind of thing. All I have to do to get my check today is to (here it comes) pay a $250 shipping and handling fee by Western Union or MoneyGram! I was asked if that was OK with me. No. Why? "Because when you win a prize, there are no fees involved." I was told, "That is not how it works." Ah

I asked if I could call them back. Instead, I called the sheriff's office, and they sent out an officer to get the info. This was only "attempted" fraud since I didn't actually give them any money. He said he had one man who did pay the money, then they called back to tell them there was a mistake and that it was a higher fee. He paid it. I think they got him 4 times before he figured out it might not be legit.

I haven't called them back, but the officer said that number has probably been changed.

When my $$$ comes through, there will be a HUGE party at my place, and a substantial donation to the Pearl! ;)

I did find out that the calls were coming from Jamaica. I guess none of the press has been notified. No one has been at my door with a microphone. Maybe I can stay anonymous a little longer.
