on the lifetime channel tonight at 9PM is "Prayers for Bobby" about a gay young man coming out to his mother and the story of how she doesn't accept it and about the boys life and life to come.... Siqoeny Weaver is his mother in the movie....... it looks like you should have tissues at hand during this one. Looks to be a great movie...... I am sure it will air again but this is the first airing tonight............. hope you can catch it..........

Sigourney Weaver hands down deserves an Emmy for her performance. She just ripped my heart out and danced all over it. I have never cried so much during a movie. When she broke down to the priest in the church, I cried. When she was pulling on the gate screaming, "Let me out my son is dead", I cried. When she rushed into the bathroom only to collapse on the floor and cry, I cried. When she stood up to the board and told her story and her son's story, I cried. When she hugged that young man during the march, I cried. What an emotional ride she led us on. Wow! If there is any justice Sigourney will be walking home with an Emmy for this performance. This is why I would love to write scripts for Lifetime. Powerful stuff.

Oh, good, I wanted to catch it last night, but I was so darn tired that I ended up falling asleep on the couch.
I shall watch it tonight then (but with a VCR backup, just in case)

I watched it last night; everyone should see it! It's wonderfully told - sad story but it is real and everyone could learn from it. Love is all that matters!!!
I don't look at movies that make me cry. I feel al bad then. I also don't look at movies that scare me. I can't sleep then. Actually, I don't watch many movies at all. I think I know why now...

It was a nice movie, considering what it was attempting. I had read the book a while ago and of course identified with Bobby. I remember hearing things like "Don't you want us all to be in heaven together" parroted back to me from my relations.
Interestingly, the movie left out (on purpose (http://www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid71403.asp)) Bobby's drug use and time as a go-go boy/prostitute. I had mixed feelings about that, since it seems like a white-washing to get the point across that bigotry can kill, but I guess the script had the blessing of Mary Griffith.

Gosh this sounds familiar--I wonder if it is a Bay Area story?

it is a bay area story. i was kinda blown away when the walnut cove ( or creek or whatever it was) pride festival was turned down and theye went to san fran...I mean GEEEZE what a sensory overload for a family such as that. going from, OK my son is gay to OMG look at all the naked people! is a HUGE step. anyway. the movie was what people who watch lifetime can handle. had they gone into all the drugs and sex it might be seen as an example of "the gay lifestyle" rather than a symptom of the fear of what being gay means to the person who is.
