Nice little discussion about Janis developing there.....Is Janis a folk singer or not?

Go and show support and show them Janis has masses of fans!!

Gosh, I wonder if the person who accuses me of being a pop singer who's jumping on the folk bandwagon has done their research...

Nah, just a lot of drugs.

What a strange thing to question!?!

I opened this guy's profile which has links to the other forums he posts on. Every one of his posts that I saw was negative criticism (especially of Mike Harding.)

Not worth responding to if you ask me.

Agreed, Dee. Bad energy feeds bad energy - don't feed the beast!

Where exactly is that folk bandwagon....and could we tow it behind the bus?

No feeding of trolls here....not worth it.

Well, it is not the first time the 'folk community' has expressed some seriously narrowminded views of what is folk and what isn't. Apparently calling yourself folk is already bad because it is not up to you to decide but up to 'the community'.

Mind you, when I alerted you to the thread, it wasn't really an argument yet. Have not been back yet since so perhaps in the meantime it has turned in to something less worthy. If so, then I apologise. I did not mean to alert you all to a troll-fest.

There is/was another discussion going where someone thanked Mike Harding for having Janis on the show and some people jumped in to agree with that. That was a rather nicer thread.

Pfff, if Janis would call her music heavy metal then it's heavy metal. It's her music. She knows best. And besides; haven't we got ears?

I just don't see the point of reacting to someone's opinion of what is worthy or not, Janis. I don't do that in my life, and certainly not with some unknown person on the Net. If this guy isn't an Internet troll, his visions are certainly hostile and bleak. He can grind his axe without any input from me, so far as I’m concerned.

I did not mean to encourage peopelto feed the troll :( Sorry if I left that impression. There were just a few nice comments being left around the Folk & Acoustic board about Janis and this guy posted she wasn't folk enough to be on the show. Some people posted nice things response. I just wanted to point out some of the nice responses.

It always annoys me how people get angry, especially inthe folk-community, when someone is considered to have 'left the family' (i.e. sang a pop song). As if that somehow invalidates everything that person has ever done before or will ever do after. Surely we judge on a music-basis. If I like folk, I may not like the pop record my favorite folkie does. But surely that does not mean that I will never buy his/her records again...

Some people are weird like that. Possesive almost. Claiming they own the 'true spirit'. Folk means 'from/by the people'. TO me, that actually implies it is 'popular music', which would classify it as pop music. See, circular argument = waste of time.

Trolls are annoying

Hi everyone. Just wanted to say not everyone who listened to the show had negative vibes.
Some people just LOVE causing trouble, it gives them a thrill, it's sad really.
I sure people on the BBC message board and here on Janis' board can read through the negative and concentrate on the positive.
Dutch Cloggie - Its not your fault that someone tried to hijack a positive posting!
Best wishes to you all. x
P.S Wasn't Janis great:)

LOL

I do believe you have it, Dutchcloggie.

By the way, I said IF he is an Internet troll. Whoever he is he has an obvious axe to grind with Mike Harding, and yet, amazingly still tunes in his show.

I did see some positve posts there too tho, to be fair.

Hello Agnes
Thanks for the welcome. I have been a fan of Janis' music for many years. I have been lucky enough to see her in concert twice. On reading the message board I cant believe she wont be back in England for three years:(
May be her English fans will change her mind! :)

They've done a marvellous job on the media, maybe they can do the same on the artist :D

I was going to post a reply to that negative post but Cloggie and Mazzey have done a very articulate and non-provocative job of it....

why do people need to pigeon hole artists into one genre or another anyway?

what happened to just making music from the heart?
