MIAMI — Thousands of shoes were dumped on a Miami expressway causing significant traffic delays.
The Florida Highway Patrol received the report during rush hour Friday morning, Lt. Pat Santangelo said. A private contractor brought a front-end loader and a dump truck to the half-mile stretch of highway. Workers were able to clear at least one lane after a short time by sweeping all the shoes to shoulder, but delays were expected to last until all the shoes could be removed.
Santangelo said the shoes appear to be used, and most were tied together in pairs. He says he's looking for a charity to take the shoes, rather than sending them to the dump.
Santangelo says he's not sure where the shoes came from. There were no signs of a crash, and no one stopped to claim them.
REALLY EVA! I'm sure there are better ways to discard your unwanted shoes! On the morning news they commented that if a sign had been put up saying, "Free Shoes", women would have had the freeway cleaned up in no-time. Sounds sexist to me!

It wasn't me! I swear! :eek: There is a grey 'tweed' pair I would like to put up on ebay or something. Or give to any Rudie with a European size 36 and narrow feet. Very high heels and extremely elegant shoes... Dar doesn't need to comply :rolleyes: if she wants them for herself.

Supposedly they are donating these shoes to people in Haiti. I am just so curious as to where they came from in the first place. There HAS to be a witness! Or was someone trying to throw them at George W. and just had lousy aim?!

Eva...my granddaughter, Mya, (Jordan) has a shoe fetish as well. I took her shopping during the holidays and instead of toys, she bought shoes.....several pairs. ;)

I let Mya ebay shop last week and this is what she got......I gave her a dollar amount and said she could get anything she wanted for that amount. :confused:

And yes, your red shoes are very classy! But are they comfortable? All too often, you have to give up one for the other.

And yes, your red shoes are very classy! But are they comfortable? All too often, you have to give up one for the other.
For high heeled shoes (these are 7 cm's; not terribly high) they are very comfortable. They are professional tangoshoes (no, I don't dance) which means there is iron where the sole meets the heel. This way I am not only walking on the front of my feet. The shoes give very good support.
