I just have to say how very sad I am that John Travolta & his wife have to mourn the death of their 16-yr old son. As a mom, no matter how famous, or not-so-famous, you are, I can't imagine losing a child. So my heart goes out to them and their family. So sad...
That is indeed very sad :(

Losing a child...a brutal fact of life that I cannot forgive.

Simply terrible! As the Dad of 2 boys (17 and 12) I can feel their grief!

I feel so sad for the family. Have a young son myself and sometimes it terrifies me that something might happen to him:(
I was very sad to hear about that as well. As a mother I shudder at the thought of how devastating it would be to loose a child.

I feel very deeply for this young man, who had a long history of seizures, the last of which probably contributed to his death. At the same, I do hope he received appropriate medical treatment for his condition over the years, and not some sort of Scientology B.S. I strongly suspect that we'll never know.
I have never been able to forgive those who encourage anything like "faith healing" since the death of Peter Sellers, who had an eminently treatable heart condition but at the urging of friends went to "psychic surgeons" and similar people and died within a short time.
To be clear, I have no quarrel with anyone's religious beliefs or the free exercise thereof, even things like Scientology if that is genuinely what you believe in. But while you're going in to get your engrams reprogrammed because you have seizures, take your Dilantin or what have you as well. You'll live a far longer and happier life....and your religion will almost certainly get to take credit for it besides.

You know John and his wife would give everything they own for just one more day with their son. My heart goes out to the Travolta family.

I have no doubt they would. But they wouldn't let him take his meds.
They have my sympathy, have no doubt about that. And I'm sure L. Ron Hubbard would forgive them. I leave the matter of whether their son would do the same to him, and he appears to be silent.

I feel bad for John Travolta and his wife Kelly, because I have gone through almost the exact same tragedy as them. More than a year ago, my 25-year-old son Mark, who lived with us, died from mental illness.
We knew that he was sick, and he was in treatment. But we were in denial when he started to spiral downward. Now I can look back and clearly see his mental state was deteriorating.
We are still in pain over his death.
The saying goes, we’ve all heard it: Hindsight is always 20-20.

Ginny, please don;t blame yourself. no one knows when something like that is going to happen...often not even the person to whom it happens. there can't be anything worse than the loss of a child.

Ginny, I have no doubt that you loved Mark dearly and he loved you.
Everything you all did came from a place of love and he knew that -somewhere deep down.
I have the belief that we all are here for a designated length of time to complete our life purpose. For some of us its a short timeframe and for others it can go on for a long time.
Be happy for Mark, he has done his work, completed his life purpose and is at peace now.

My earlier comments were unfounded and, as it turns out, completely wrong. This young man was indeed receiving anti-seizure medication. My apologies to anyone I may have upset with my earlier words. My thoughts are of course with the Travolta family, as they always have been...if not entirely with their belief system.

On my way home from work, I was listening to ABC TV's Insider on the radio. Of course, I had no video, but it was clear that they were milking the story for all they were worth. There was "more" on what this or that celebrity was saying/thinking/feeling, as well as the recording of the emergency worker who tried to revive Jett. And if I heard one more measure of "In the arms of the angels, fly away..." (Not one of my favorite songs, with the "yodel-y" vocal flips.) I got home and out of the car about the time they were announcing what Miley Cyrus had to say. Geeez louise! Let these people grieve! I cannot imagine having to suffer as the Travoltas are in this media circus.
My thoughts are with them. Silently.

Thank you for your kind words, Angelgirl and Hoops.
Dave, I apologize for my earlier bluntness. There are always many stories of tragedy in the news, this particular news item seems to have affected me personally.
I agree, Karen, that the media should allow the Travolta family to mourn in private.
