View Full Version : The JIMB Awards!
And now, dear friends, as we close out one year and begin another, it's time for the first annual Janis Ian Message Board (JIMB) Awards, known among us as the Jimbies.
Mary has already been presented with her award for best avatar/best graphic designer.
In addition, I nominate Mary for the coveted Most Twisted Award.

Who else, here, will be nominated, and for what award?
(The only caveat is that it should be someone other than Mary, for obvious reasons!) :)
I nominate Marjan as best poledancer. It's not only for her number one hit on Oak's video though. It's an award for her entire poledancing carreer untill now.

Hey, how about at the next Janismania, Marjan offers her own master class in poledancing... what you think?
By the way.....what do the trophies look like?
DaveM, let me get back to you on that. (Hopefully tomorrow.) I'm still checking with the trophy companies and looking into the possibility of engraving. We shall see.
Anybody else have any other nominations (for new awards or awards already brought up on this thread)?

I'd second that... yes, Dee for best demented lyricsThank you for that, Mary.
Any other "seconds?" We need an initial nomination and a "second" to put the nominee into serious running in any given category.
Dee will be proclaimed the winner in this particular category ("Best Demented Lyrics") unless someone else is nominated and seconded for it.
By the way.....what do the trophies look like?Presenting, for the first time ever, the "Jimbie!" :D

Hope you like it. This was the best I could negotiate for with the various companies.
(Note: This is an award Rudies could actually drink out of.)
DaveM

I was thinking that a plate with silverware would be more than appropriate. Have the Rude Girl engraved in the middle of the plate and everyone would be that much more eager to "clean their plate".
I'm sure any self-respecting Rudie could provide his/her own silverware. You're pretty particular, Dave; sounds like you want the Rude Girl on a silver platter. I was able to negotiate this:
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/SilverPlattercopy.jpg
I dunno. Still prefer the original award. (After all, Rudies could drink out of it or fill it with M & M's or other such small finger foods or candies and eat right out of it.)
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/LargeGoldTrophyCupWithLogoandGeneri.jpg<---- I say this one! (There's even a place for the name of the category winner.) Other opinions?
I don't really care about the shape, just the value...

Only the real thing; I negotiated for awards in real gold and real silver. After all, don't our Rudie winners deserve at least as good as Oscar and Grammy winners?!
The first Jimbie cup was a prototype. The final cup award is slightly modified, with a little more gold. :)

Best Demented Lyrics? LOL That's Deemented to you! :p
I definitely second Redjack as Captain Unique of the Rudieque! He should get the silver plate (if he takes runner-up----or not).

You have all been so creative and generous in your nominations and I thank you! It's so great (and humbling) being here with such exceptional people from all over the world.
Sadly, I must inform all that we are nearing the end of the Jimbie budget for 2009. (These gold statues don't come cheap, you know. Then we have the names to be inscribed, in gold, no less, on the base of each statue.) No more initial nominations will be accepted after midnight on Monday, January 5th, American Central Standard Time. (Sorry, Eva, I don't know how soon that must be for you, but very soon, I'm sure.) Seconding people already nominated may still continue until further notice.
It's my understanding that there will be new Jimbie Awards funding for 2010.

As I read the wonderful nomination I thought about the same as Randy and what I actually was thinking "worst for who". During my last hospital stay I think the hospital staff felt that were the victims. I heard them talking that they thought that I could tell my veins to not give them blood. One nurse even cried because of my ability to stop blood flow before it even started. They lined up outside my room to see if they could conquer "THE ONE WHO WOULD NOT GIVE BLOOD" and bleed her into a flowing blood mess. Yes even the staff anesthesiology could not conquer this patient. After the first few people (victims) attempted the procedure of withdrawal reinforcements were called in and they were carrying lidocaine (sp). They were told she doesnt need that she is tough. So I was stuck again and again in my arms in my neck in my legs in my toes...but alas no blood...he he he, Yes even after 73 sticks no blood. They hung their head in shame as an order for a pick was given. The nurse specialist who started the pick told me that the most difficult thing in the procedure was the tourniquet. But he didn't know about the powerful influence that this patient had over their blood vessels. Laughing I told my vessels to make some difficult turns inside the arm and chest. As I was growing tired of the whole business I went ahead and let the guy put the pick in because he was sweating bullets and I really don't like sweat dropping around me. All and all things were peaceful until they said it was time for it to come out. I was really happy for it to come out but I just couldn't resist one more time to cause trouble. I was told that it was really easy to remove the tubing. It was easy too easy because I almost missed my opportunity I could no feel it coming out. I say almost because all of a sudden the nurse in charge said somethings wrong to the other nurse. Both of them tried again and again to pull the tubing out without pulling too hard. They should have known that I was growing tired of this situation. So as they both were pulling I decided to let up a bit on my squeezing. The nurses closed their eyes as the tubing made a loud squeak and it was finally worked out of my arm.
A nomination for worse hospital stay is an honor but I think Hoops was the one who received to worst luck in her stay. I bow down to you hoops and the horrible things you went through.

I like that a lot better. It sounds mystical. Or like something yuppies would drink for about six months until someone came up with another name for vodka and some sort of mixer.
I've been in close communication with the manufacturer of our awards. They will soon (very soon!) be inscribing the trophies in gold with the names of our winners and are asking for submission of the final list. Therefore, the deadline for any further seconding is midnight tonight (Wednesday, January 7), Central Standard Time.
Tickets are being printed even as we speak. Get yours! We are almost there! :) :)

I'll second that seconding.. I could not have pulled the event off without Agnes's help. she even got ME to *LIKE* a few vegetarian dishes. that in and of itself should warrant an award!

Elliott, are you saying you resent your nomination? If so, is it the wording in the chart or the whole concept? Do you wish to have the category name reworded? Decline the nomination? Leave it as is?
I really don't know if you are kidding! Thanks for your clarification. But please hurry!!

Ah yes....you're right, Bat.
As it happens, I already have my acceptance speech written...and most of you probably know it already.
I would also like to nominate Chet for that one. Chet is from Malaysia and was both in the US and in the UK to see Janis. And I am sure she traveled a lot in Asia too to see Janis. Am I right Chet? :)
Eva
Thanks, Eva. I don't qualify for most miles travelled, but I will lay claim to having travelled the furthest to see Janis.
Malaysia - England in April 2006
6,557 miles (10,552 km)
Malaysia - USA (Los Angeles) in November 2006
8,782 miles (14,133 km)
I could be wrong, of course.
And Eva - the only Asian country I travelled to see Janis was Singapore in February 2005.

Good evening (morning/afternoon/night), dear ladies and gentlemen of the Rudie persuasion. I am humbled and honored to present to you, the 2009 Jimbie Award winners! Feel free to jump in any time with your acceptance speeches, applause, recognition, comments, etc. (I can hardly wait to see folks all dressed up in their formal wear and special dress shoes!) (That includes those with and without feet, of course.)
Our first award this evening goes out to someone who's already been recognized. The award for the JIMB Best Avatar/Best Graphic Designer is our very own Mary! Congratulations, Mary! Come get your trophy and feel free to repeat your previous acceptance speech or a new one. Yes, we really do like you!
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforMary.jpg
Our next winner is certainly multi-talented. This evening, we recognize her as the winner of the coveted Best Pole Dancer award. Presenting the lovely, the gracious, the ultra-coordinated Marjan. Come get your trophy, Marjan! (The line for signing up for lessons is right behind me.)
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforMarjan.jpg
Our next award winner is vivacious and not afraid to speak her mind. Please join me in recognizing the Pirate Queen with the winning personality, the winner of the Don't Hate Me Cuz I'm Beautiful award, our very own Eva! Come get your trophy, Eva! ;) (She threatened to run me through with her sword if I didn't introduce her like this . . .)
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforEva.jpg
Let's give it up for our Dutch Rudie winners!
Our next award for Grooviest Person was hotly contended. So many groovy Rudies! The trophy, in fact, goes to none other than Andrea. Come take a bow, Andrea, and pick up your gold Jimbie!
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforAndrea.jpg
And now, we have the pleasure of recognizing a talented (and rather twisted) lyricist, a man whose Deementia knows no bounds. Please welcome the songwriter who is second only to Janis. (Not that Janis is twisted.) For winner of Best De(e)mented Lyrics, please give it up for our very own Dee. Come on up and be seen, Dee!
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/FinalGenericTrophyCupWithLogo.jpg
Our next two award winners need no introduction. Both gentlemen are well-known for their respective talents. The first lives by his Captain's sword and extra-long meat fork. He's also got an apron and is not afraid to use it. Please join me in applauding the winner of the Grill and Party Organizer Extraordinaire award, our good-hearted (but fierce) Redjack. Come up and accept your award, Redjack!
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforRedjack.jpg
Next we have another well-known Rudie gentleman. One with a past. He's outspoken and outrageous. He's known around these parts for many things, not the least of which is Most Girlfriends Like That. Please give it up for our very own DaveM!

Sorry, to be a little late to the stage ... I was using the facilities when all of a sudden my name was called ....
Well, I'm just thrilled and honored to be a recipient of one of the first ever JIMBie Awards .... and I must say it's a fine looking award indeed. I sincerely thank all who voted for me (you know who you are, I can't name all of you cause I've wasted enough time already by being in the loo) ... and I'd like to thank my two Rudie friends that helped me be able to get up here and also be able to take my award home (since I have no feet and arms) .... I'd like to thank Angelgirl for finding me a set of wings so I could float up here, and then to my dear little friend Bat for helping me carry this award home tonight.
<<oh there's that darn music again.... >> ok, Thank you, thank you all ... good night!!

I, of course, would like to thank the laughing academy.....
With any luck, now that Hoops has gotten me out of Janis and Pat's home, I'll be able to get there in time to accept the award. And if she can't get me there, Sister Rose will no doubt step up to the plate. Sister Rose, after all, gets me there every time I gaze upon her finely sculptured features....
Oh, never mind.

mary, my mom always said nuns have no feet...cause she never saw them in her 13 years in catholic school. she said it kinda scared her...maybe you have nun in you somewhere in your past?
That very well could be, Hoops.... I did go to my catechism classes for a few years at my church (St. Mary's, by the way)
Congrats to you all...well and truly earned. I can't wait to see the second segment of the JIMB Awards!
Gee, Mary, I'm so honored to be your Award Bearer!! I love my new purple suit you got me for the occasion. Was it made from the same material as your wonderful gown? (Perhaps from the bottom which was cut off because you didn't quite need all that length, being footless and fancy free?)
Lovely! I'm SO Proud! :)
P.S. Are we there, Yet? This sucker is HEAVY!!
Congrats to you all...well and truly earned.
Indeed! And didn't Mary look lovely in her purple gown and wings! (Well done, Mary, you've truly earned your award once again.) Somehow, I didn't think Bat was that small . . and that purple. Oh, a purple Bat-suit.
(Cue music.)
We must get back to our awards. The envelope, please . . .
What's this I see? We have a first. It seems the independent mathematicians who tabulated the votes have had a difficult time with this one: Most Miles Traveled to See Janis. Apparently, there has been some disagreement over whether this award was meant to go to the Rudie who made the most miles in one trip or to the Janis fan who traveled the most miles, cumulatively. The decision is . . . a 3-way tie! Congratulations all round to Marjan, Chet, and Wendy! Such loyalty. Such devotion. But as we all know, more Janis is always a good thing!
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforMarjan.jpg

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforLucilleWendy.jpg
And next, I have the honor of presenting an award that encompasses both creativity and food - two areas close to the heart of any true Rudie. Congratulations to Agnes for her well-deserved win of the Unforgettably Varied, Super Creative Vegetarian award. Now that's a mouthful!
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforAgnes.jpg
And what would any auction be without the unforgettable talents of our own Auctioneer Supremo, Karen, whose superlative skills probably led to the award directly following hers.
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforKaren.jpg
That's right. This Auctioneer Supremo certainly influenced our very dear Elliott who won, "hands-down", the prestigious Most Enthusiastic Bidder award. Elliott must have won this through a most single-minded endeavor. Or otherwise.
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforElliott.jpg
Elliott, congratulations to both of you!
And now, to pay homage to another thread and honor more Rudies at the same time, we have the Jimbie award for Most Guesses for Secret Santa. It seems, once again, we have a tie. This award goes to both Marcia and angelgirl. (But who's counting. :))
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforMarcia.jpg
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforAngelgirl.jpg
Let's give them both a hearty round of applause!
Don't leave the stage just yet, Marcia. Drum roll, please. You've also earned the dubious distinction of Premature Celebration. Go ahead and make that acceptance speech, now. Yes, now's the time. Marcia? Marcia? Oh well . . .
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforMarcia.jpg
One thing we all have in common is our love for Janis. We're grateful to this next Rudie for her winning ideas and her selflessness in bringing her ideas to fruition. A very hearty congratulations and thank-you to Marjan, the clear winner of the Best Gift Idea for Janis, Ever! award.

And now, another word (or many words) from our sponsors and ceremony attendees.

Well, I would like to thank my fellow nominees, Marjan and Chet who indeed all turned out to "WIN" the award with me.
I do acknowledge that Marjan has definitely travelled the most to see Janis, but she has scooped the pool for this year's awards, so surely could've been eliminated from this one.:D No, I am smiling.
And as for Chet, I suppose if you add up the miles she has travelled, she could take the prize unchallenged.:D

We had a speech (just in case one of us won), and only now realized I left it in my other tee shirt. And since I'm not wearing cuffs, this will be off one..... I'm overwhelmed, and thrilled just to be standing here in front of all this amazing talent, all of whom deserve this award as much as I do. First of all I want to thank Chad Lowe, because his then wife Hillary Swank forgot to mention him in her acceptance speech. I would also like to express my thanks to Al Gore for inventing the internet, making this entire, wonderful night possible. And I have to give a big shout out to Andy Greene for being such a wonderful student and outbidding everyone on the board for the "Pearl" guitar, as it shall now be known. And just so it may benefit other bidders in the future, here is my secret.... know what your ceiling is on an item and start there. When Janis taps you on the shoulder and says', "Elliott, you're bidding against yourself", just think, Oh My God, Janis just said my name in my ear and then double your bid. When the bidding slows down, add $25.00 to your own bid, etc.... And last, but not least, I want to thank everyone at the event for one of the happiest days of my life. When Janis sang "Silly Habits", for one moment she looked in my eyes and smiled. And no matter what this crazy world throws at us, we can always recall those moments that mean so much, and everything else seems so small. At the end of my days, this is what I'm taking with me. Thanks for the memories..... Love, Elliott

Do I have $25 for this award? OHHHH...
Thank you all for your support and high bids. And in the case of he who shall remain bidless, thanks for bidding against yourself, thus making my job of raising funds so much easier.
Sorry I showed up in my usual garb. I auctioned off my fancy ball gown. I think Jenny has it now.
I am humbled to be in the presence of so many esteemed Rudies. I thank you.
And as for Chet, I suppose if you add up the miles she has travelled, she could take the prize unchallenged.:D

This next winner is known for her above-and-beyond parenting and has also shown herself to be a very valuable asset to the Rudie community. In fact, she altered the course of people's lives in a very positive way with her idea and coordination of Janismania, 2004. Some say she is far too modest. I'm delighted to present the awards for both Rudie Who Started a Dynasty and Sheer Rudie-ism to our very own Beth Majors! Let's give her a resounding round of applause and encourage her to come up and receive her awards!

the award does not belong to me as much as it does to my rudie family who kept me alive and kept me going. marcia who broke thru the lines of communication and made sure that the board knew where i was, how i was and when i was. I thank you all for the vibes and prayers and candles and positive thoughts. i truly owe you my life.
now for a little more upbeat speech. i want to thank the creator...of the oreo cookie. i want to thank the person who decided that potato chips and onion dip went well together. the person who created pepsi and the person who discovered chocolate and went out of his/her way to make it a life giving food. i know there are many more to thank. but the music has started and THANK YOU ALL MUAH MUAH MAUH!

Oh Bat, tap tap on the shoulder, ;)
Here's to everyone who won an award and to Sara who made this fun party possible :) *stands up applauding* Here's also to everyone who didn't win an award. You're still okay people even though it was obviously not pointed out  :D
Now where is the bar? I feel like getting drunk on cocktails for weeks now. I see one of the bartenders is a cute butch...

Belinda really should have gotten an award. We could have sent notice to her web page and it almost certainly would have been posted on same at some point. Her page is already full of resume entries which to my knowledge, she never did (e.g. appearing in "Borat").

Perhaps Sister Rose wants to be one of the "girlfriends like that"? She'd look a lot better in a gown than I would.
Meanwhile, first one to the motorcycle has dibs.

Who among us has managed to stay out of the hospital? I expect we've pretty much all had some kind of experience there. But none of us, I daresay, has undergone quite what our dear hoops has endured. My heart (and this award) goes out to this supportive, much beloved Rudie, winner of the Worst Hospital Stay in Recent Years award. Come on up, hoops and accept your award!

This next heartfelt presentation recognizes a Rudie with extraordinary powers. She is not eligible to have achieved the status of Dutch Superfan, but this Rudie from Oak Ridge, Tennessee has mastered a mysterious process from the Far East. Please give it up for Darlene, the winner of the Best Yogi(ni) of the Year award!
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforDarlene.jpg
But who did win the coveted award of Dutch Superfan? Why none other than our well-traveled Rudie with those great gift ideas, our very own Marjan. Are you ready for another trip to the stage, Marjan?
http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq287/schoolcounselor4kids/TrophyforMarjan.jpg
Wow I can't believe it.....my computer goes down and I return to find my name among such "greats" (taking a small break to look up the meaning of Yogi)
OK, a quick google of term Yogi tells me that:
A "yogini" is the female equivalent to a practicing male "yogi.' Both enjoy the benefits of the disciplined pursuit of union with God through the practice of yoga.
Yogini - a female practitioner of Yoga
Yoni ("womb") - the perineum or female genitals, but also the source of the universe; cf. linga
Yogini Tantra
The secret of the inferior gates lies in the contraction of the anal sphincters or in placing a finger or a part of the foot on the orifice so that to cover it (usually the heel).
Hummmmmm
and the only thing that I thought I could do was to stop my blood flow and my heart on occasion.....
Now my speech.....Thanks Y'all!
It is indeed an honor.
Darlene
You are indeed a woman of many talents, Darlene...who knew??

But can she play music that way?
she can unless she's one of those 'special' kazoo players...
I'm speechless, y'all . . . ! :D
