"If there was ever a sad day for nerds, it's today, as Majel Barrett-Rodenberry (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Majel_Barrett) has passed away (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081218/ap_en_ot/obit_roddenberry_1). The widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry is best remembered as the gorgeous Nurse Christine Chapel from the original series, the pesky and officious Lwaxana Troi from The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, and of course the ubiquitous voice of Star Trek computers in movies, TV, and animated films (who hasn't used her voice as a system sound on their PC?). Majel also attended Star Trek conventions yearly and was a producer of Andromeda. Fortunately, Majel just finished her voice over work for the computers in J.J. Abrams' latest Trek movie (http://www.startrekmovie.com/). I have to admit, this made me sad, just having caught up on the entire TNG and DS9 series on DVD."

She was one of my favorites. May she rest in peace.

A great loss. In her honor, perhaps it is time to stop making "Star Trek" movies. The series was very much a product of its time and will endure. With half of the cast now gone onward, whether boldly or not, let the memories remain as Gene Roddenberry intended.
Oh this is very very sad news. I've always loved Majel. I'm glad she got to finish this latest Star Trek movie. The franchise won't be the same without her involvement.
What is a Federation vessel without her computervoice? Not the same in any case :( For me she was always part of the corecrews.

Are they going to rocket her ashes out to space, too, to be with Gene?
It would be fitting, as she was a huge part of the series...Loved Lwoxanna!
Wonderful role playing. She will be missed by all who knew her, I'm sure.
RIP Majel.

I like that idea, Bat....perhaps we could get a petition going or something. It would be more than appropriate.
