There was a 5-star review of their new CD in today's Boston Globe. You can read the full review here http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/2006/05/22/dixie_chicks_come_on_strong_and_sun_kissed_in_new_ album/
Also today, I found this http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Music/05/22/music.dixiechicks.reut/index.html indicating that the country stations won't be playing it.
I was planning on buying it even if I didn't like it that much as my way of supporting Natalie and sticking it to da man. I was pleasantly surprised that I've liked all of the samples I've heard.
Rudies? What's your verdict. Thumbs up or down?

Ehm......I quite like the song but I am not sure if I like it for the statement or for the music. Or rather, which of these was the initial reason for liking the song.
I like the Chicks. I like the song. It is not a very good song I'm afraid. And I really do not see why they wanted to release this 3 years after the whole blow-up. It seems like a publicity stunt they did not need to get involved in.
I have liked the Chicks for a few years now. I think their music is no longer country. Just like Shania Twain, Toby Keith & Garth Brooks are no longer country. In fact, like the way most modern country is not really country.
But of course the country stations are not playing them because they had a dig at the industry. Nothing to do with the fact that most country singers seemed to be very quick to denounce the Chicks and accuse them of all kinds of unpatriotic rubbish. Nothing to do with the political opinion of the majority of country music stations's listeners.
THe Chicks themselves have said they are happy to move away from country music because country music has made a serious move to towards RedNeck again, a stigma they had managed to shake off a few years ago. The Chicks say they do not feel at home in the country world where people make them feel they are outcasts for speaking out against Bush. Natalie even said she never liked country music to begin with (rumours say she was only asked to join the band because her father 'knows' people in the business).
So, I have not heard the album yet. I will most likely get it as I like the Chicks. I am however at a loss as to why they felt like re-opening the debate. If she was so upset, why did it take 3 years to write a song about it? They are too country for main stream appeal. And country has kicked them out (well, you don't help yourself by saying you don't want to be part of the country scene in the first place). Perhaps they hope all those who are anti-Bush will buy the single in support? That should boost their sales more than just country fans buying the music:)

I am embarrassed that the Dixie Chicks are NOT from Pennsylvania!
Goodbye to country radio for the Chicks. Gladly, I would think.

I plan to get it before the week is out...or maybe my partner took the hint and I will get it for my B-day....which is very soon. ;) I like country music, but I have to say for the Chicks it should be "see ya"....LOL. I look at it this way. We may all know what axe Natalie Maine has to grind, but those lyrics (with the exception of one or two) to the debut song could be applied to other situations. Love their sound, those ladies can rock, and they are not hard to look at either. Hope to catch them on Letterman tonight.....Go Chicks!!

Just downloaded it from iTunes. I was toying with the idea of purchasing the physical CD to get the advance tour ticket code, but couldn't wait. So far, I like every track. Of course, it's no FINB, but it's pretty good music.
btw, it's iTMS #1 album today, knocking the Chili Peppers out of the top spot.
I never liked the Dixie Chicks until they spoke their minds on GW Bush and later retracted their apology they had extended to all they had offended...maybe I need to give them a bit more attention.

I will buy it just to support someone who speaks their mind. i just bought Neil Young's new CD because it is SO anti-war and anti-Bush. Waiting for Linda Ronstadt's latest to do the same. I cannot believe all the people who boycott artists because they see Bush for the c-average, junk president that he is.

Actually, I think it took them so long to do this because what happened to them was very traumatic, and it took them a while to process it. Suddenly being reviled by your peers and expelled from the genre of music you make simply because you exercised your right to express an opinion -- I'd think that could shellshock you for a while. To me, the timing makes perfect sense. And it's not like the message no longer applies. I think sending a message by supporting them is as good a reason to buy the CD as enjoying the music.
