Now folks I could have sworn I posted on a thread in the past few days about London - well actually not sure what the original topic was but it got on to visiting London. Merlin had posted along the lines that it was a terrible city and visitors are missing nothing not to go there and I replied that while all cities have their problems I thought London was a must-see city to visit. I cannot see this thread anywhere. Even did a search on all my posts and it didn't come up - am I losing it?? Or maybe it got deleted for some reason??

It's only a dream, Anna....you've fallen asleep on the Rudie Bus. Soon you will awaken to hot coffee and stroopwaffels and will be on route to someplace wonderful....though probably not London. And Dar's guitar artistry.
Dream.....dream....dream....

Perhaps it got removed?
I reported a London post as spam as it was an unknown poster who posted nothing but a list of links to the same website for cheap hotels in london.
Perhaps by the time the thread got removed you had started a discussion about London which got deleted as part of the removed spam?
If so, mea culpa. I have nothing against london or threads about london. Just something against spammers who post a list of links to some website withloads of pop-ups and cheap hotels.
I think that's what happened, Anna. I don't see it anymore either.
Yeah, I agree with whatever Merlin had to say about London.
London for me in 5 words-
Overrated
Dirty
Crap food
Worse public transport system in the world
Pretentious

Anna, sorry - looks like someone got a little overenthusiastic and removed the whole post. Our mistake!

Sorry. Only wanted to report the spam post, not the whole thread.
I like London. No more dirty than any other major city. ANd the people are no more rude than people in any other major city. I think London suffers fm rthe same problems as...well...any other major city: Lots of business people, not a lot of community feel left (not in the city centre, but lots of it in the borroughs that make up Wider London), dirty streets and peopel who are just trying to survive and not lose themselves. THe only exception I know is Sydney where things are so relaxed they are almost irritatingly so!!
London is like most cities: Know where to go and it is fun. Go on a whim and stay only the tourist trail and it is not so much fun.

There you go, Anna--a personal pat on the head from Janis. So just sit down, relax, and have a stroopwaffel.

What's wrong with being completely bonkers? If you get especially delusional, the world almost begins to make sense....
What does 'bonkers' mean? (serious question)

Your list is good but slightly incomplete, Marcia.
They left out too many of my favourite synonyms! Ones like ...
unhinged, disturbed, mad, unbalanced, distracted, loco, touched, deranged, moonstruck, nutbar, and one that's near and dear to my heart:
Deemented.

"Eccentric" isn't bad, but apparently you have to be wealthy to be eccentric.

Yea Marcia... Thats the truth... But we won't mention Redjack by name.... As to London or other cities... They might be dirty, over populated and even annoying with no parking spaces BUT.... The beauty of many places are as much the people as the location....If you look hard enough you can find some good about everywhere....
Best to all

I miss the city a lot since I moved to Nottingham....
I miss being able to hop on a bus or my bicycle and get to any number of amazing cultural events.
I lived in Islington, just outside Central London and worked in Shoreditch, which is a few miles away but also not in Central London. This made it easy for me to cycle to work every day without ever having to go near the underground.
I also had several large parks near me and plenty of urban wildlife in my street- foxes, squirrels, frogs... an inexpensive organic foodshop on my street corner etc.. all of which suited me fine.
Since moving out of London I have stopped cycling- it's too dangerous here- the place is full of dual carriageways, whereas London consists mainly of smaller roads which are easy to navigate.
I love the countryside but for a single person such as myself who does not drive, London is very user friendly.
And once you get to know it, it has a real soul.
