So at some point during the Chicago gig, I recognized that I did NOT recognize Janis' guitar! Later on, Bat turned to me and mentioned that she didn't remember the design on the headstock. I whispered to her that we'd not seen that guitar before and we would have to ask afterward.

Janis' Ryan (the one with the broken bridge) was in the shop. I'll let her finish this as she can tell it in much more detail. I did LOVE the sound. It had a great dark tone to it and yet when it needed to, it had the brightness as well. A wonderful instrument to have as a "back-up!"

Doesn't she have two Ryans?

Yes, Janis has 2 Ryans but one of them broke on the recent UK tour. It is in the shop. She had a guitar with her that I'd not seen before. And although she told me the story behind it, I think it would be more accurate coming from her. I don't recall the manufacturer, etc. It was a beautiful guitar though both visually and musically speaking!

The "spare", which I'll be using as each Ryan gets shipped to Kevin, worked on, then shipped back, is a small guitar made by Lloyd Baggs for me around 1975. He was a struggling luthier, I was a struggling singer/songwriter still, and we are fast friends to this day. He is, btw, the same Baggs of LR Baggs pickups.

Intriguing....and there's nothing quite like a properly "aged" guitar.

I really hope the zoom I took of it on stage shows up the gorgeous abalone work on the headstock and sound hole...it is dark blonde with green abalone, just a beautiful piece of workmanship, which just happens to sound pretty wonderful, too. I adore beautiful instruments like that!

So did anyone get a picture of this unique guitar?! I'd love to see what everyone is describing...sounds wonderful.

I hope I did...if it doesn't pick up the glare from the lights and turn out awful.
The pics go in for developing tomorrow...not as fast as digital, but I think my camera takes nice pics, worth waiting for, if I did my job right.
