Some days are Janis days, and otherdays are just other days. I confess, I sometimes feel a little guilty for "cheating" on Janis. I blame REDJACK and Joan.... REDJACK just because... and Joan for turning me on to Cheryl Wheeler. I think it's so great with music that we can have it all and nobody gets hurt! And nobody wants lobster everyday. I take that back.... I do want lobster every day. I just wish they would die of old age moments before I eat them... the lobster, I mean! :p

You are all very sick people with this lobster-thing :D
Saxman, don't feel guilty. Like Elliott said: some days are Janis days and other days are other days. I had a Kate Bush day today. And sometimes I have a Indigo Girls, Patty Larkin or Dar Williams day. Whatever music you choose; it's all good. Some music fits with this mood, other music with that mood. And sometimes even no music feels best.

Like the silence between the songs. You have to have one to have the other.

Music is wonderful and silence makes it better.

Music is like food. It sustains us, but unless stranded on an island, we naturally choose variety; there are different tastes/genres, tactile differences/rhythms, temperatures (cold meal, hot meal)/backbeat-ballads.............and as mentioned above several times, different moods...........I think Janis would be concerned about anyone whose dedication to her music was to preclude the enjoyment of a Dvorak, a Scott Joplin, a Johnny Mathis, a Bob Dylan, a Four Tops.

I sometimes have Depeche Mode days, Nirvana days, Pergolesi days, David Bowie days, and fill in about X other artists. It's all great. I had an afternoon where the sound was mostly wind rustling through trees, and barking dogs with here and there some human conversation. It was nice too.

I'm feeling guilty because I haven't listened to any music today. Doesn't happen often... but today there was so much work to do that any music would have distracted me.

tonight, after lobster, I ran by my Barnes and Noble bookseller / music store and got:
Spanish: Living Language on CD (maybe it will help me sleep)
Andrea Bocelli, Incanto
Celine Dion, My Love, Essential Collection (:o ) I know I swore I would stop, but the devil made me do it!
The Divine Bette Midler DVD

Checked out the Janis section as usual and was delighted to see Folk is the new Black, The new Best of, and Breaking Silence. It must be so cool to have your own section at a major chain store. She's in the folk section, of course.

Saxman, I was thinking... I think one of the reasons that Janis' music is so rich, is that she got inspired by listening to lots of other artists. I think the album Billies Bones is proof of that. I think it works like that for everyone.
