Hope you recover very soon Janis, if only for those lucky Rudies who are getting to see you this week.
Too much travelling, not enough rest. OK, lecture over.

Anyone heard from Lori yet?

She has 3 more shows (Fri, Sat and Sun) before a 10-day break. Hopefully, she gets to go home to Pat for those 10 days.

Due to Janis' illness, there wasn't a lot of hugging going on! Hope you are feeling MUCH better today, Janis!

Were you ill, Janis? I hope it's nothing serious. But whatever it is: it must be quite sh**tty to feel ill when you have to perform. Get well soon!

I don't think she's flying between shows in the States.

I do hope they didn't get into some more of that low-mileage salmon....

Oh, and while in Wisconsin and Iowa, be sure to try the official sport of the region: cow tipping. And never forget that cheese is duty free....

Greetings from Chicago! I met a lot of 'Rudies' at the Chicago show and what a friendly bunch they are. :D Hello to New Jersey, Indianapolis, Cincinnati... I said I would be able to remember the locations and probably not the names. I woke up at 3:30am this morning and couldn't stop thinking about the show. This is a day and a half later.
Even though Janis did inform us that she was suffering with a cold, I didn't find any fault with the performance. If I wanted to listen to a perfect performance, I could listen to one of her CD's. I guess my only disappointment (maybe too strong a word but it's very early) was that she wasn't able to sing Jesse. I recently adopted a dog from an animal shelter and named her Jesse so the song has some significance to me.
When Janis was singing, the theatre was silent. No coughing, rustling of any kind. The audience was even waiting to take pictures until the end of songs. I think they were so enthralled with the performance that they had to wait until the song's journey was over.
BTW - I loved her performance of "Joy".

Thank you MadMusician for sharing this with us. Donīt believe that I have said "Welcome to the board". Nice to hear the story about the dog. Yeah, Janis is really good (perfect) on stage.

Diane, sorry you couldn't get to Cedarburg as Janis opened with Jesse! She went on to ask us (after the show) if that was ok!! OK?! I told her that we (Bat and I) had never heard her perform it live, much to her surprise. She was pleased that she'd made that choice and so were we. We enjoyed it for ya, Diane! ;)

I wish I could have been there to hear Jesse but after further reflection - what song would I have removed from the set?

I've seen Janis live before and she performed Jesse then. It's close to my heart because it was the first 'janis' song I transcribed for guitar and has been a 'standard' for me to play for years (could it really be over 20 years - gulp!?).

Is that copyright infringement?

And anyway - I was looking to steal some chords from this show. I was working on a piano arrangement for 'Ruby' but I think I'll switch to "I Hear You Sing Again". Just a hobby for me. I think I'll quit writing about it and start doing it.

Hey MM, didn't you bring a transcription of one of Janis' songs that you showed to her? She said you did an excellent job! That was tres cool!

I think Anna from Dublin probably has a decent piano part for Ruby......just an educated guess! LOL So that means you HAVE to purchase the JanisMania DVD from this website. Anna just happened to accompany Janis on the piano as she sang Ruby, just about 2 years ago for some of us VERY lucky audience members/Rudies.

Everytime I think I have it all - I find something I don't have. ;) I bought the other DVD at the Chicago show.

Regarding the transcription, I asked Janis to sign because that's the current song I'm learning and I wanted to be able to look at the signature and think of the concert. It's written down because as I've aged, I just can't remember the words to 'new' songs. Or in the future, I'll want to play it and can't for the life of me think of the first chord... Usually once I get that first chord or two - it becomes muscle memory...

And yes, she did compliment :o but it really wasn't a difficult song.

"Muscle memory" is an interesting way to put that. At some point in time I realized that the way I memorized songs on the piano was not by ear, but after reading the sheet music and playing it enough, my fingers would just start going there. So I memorize by how the chords feel under my fingers, the spacing, etc. I haven't analyzed it on drums. Not yet anyway.

Marcia :)
