..who are your top three, favourite artists? Mine are as follows:
1) Paula Rego
2) Frida Kahlo
3) Salvador Dali
1. Ha Van Vuong
2. Van Gogh
3. Pat Snyder
I don't have art decorating the walls in my (still) new apartment, but I have a Van Gogh and Snyder to put up when I get round to doing it. The Van Gogh is just a copy bought in a card and poster store many years ago, while the Snyder is an original (thanks to cardiffgal). I also have some Ha Van Vuong (again, copies bought from the same store as the Van Gogh) packed away in one of the still unopened boxes.

Hockney
Monet
Calder
I had a chance to purchase a small Hockney water color when I was first out of graduate school. It would have put me too much in debt, so I passed. Huge mistake!

not necessarily in that order...and so many other could have made the list instead.
Joni Mitchell paints?!

Can't give you three Rachel, but my top choice would be the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh (http://www.vangoghgallery.com/painting/).
Gordon Ramsey
Raymond Blanc

Des, I like your thinking! These people do have a flair for painting a picture, they just happen to use a plate for a canvass. Nice thinking 'outside the box'! :D

Dee, yes I know where you're coming from - I switch from one mode of expression to another - mainly because I have a short attention span! Do you have any examples of your music or pictures maybe online that I could listen to/look at?
Wish I knew what you meant, Rachel.

LOL I make neither records nor paint, although I do have a small painting kit stored somewhere and a couple of small canvases. Just never got around to picking up a brush yet.
Anyhow, if you want to see some of Joni's paintings, there is a section called The Painter (http://jonimitchell.com/artwork/) on the top menu of her website.
"Think of Joni Mitchell and [you] think primarily of her incredible career as a singer, songwriter, musical innovator and trailblazer. Much has been written and discussed of her musical career - much less so of her life as a painter.
We've been collecting images for years and have organized 195 pieces of Joni's artwork here for all to enjoy."
Althought I don't usually like abstracts, I rather like the one called The Junk in Ole's Yard (http://jonimitchell.com/artwork/browsestyle.cfm?id=286) myself.

Thomas Hart Benton - "The Sources of Country Music," Thomas Hart Benton's final work, hangs inside Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame's display area.
MC Escher - they fascinate me...
Hieronymus Bosch – My favorite is “Garden of Earthly Delights”.
I didn't know Joni Mitchell painted, but judging by her 'arty' drapey clothing, I am not surprised...she's not bad:

Oops, sorry to confuse. I didn't realise you were quoting Joni -I thought you were saying you painted and wrote songs!

Hello all! This is my very first post on this forum, which I discovered after a WONDERFUL Friday evening in Cedarburg with our host! Well, I wasn't WITH her (we're both quite "taken" LOL)!! But it's amazing to me how accessible Janis is -- a rarity among performers, and a quality which only enhances her music. I've seen many concerts over the years, but hers was truly a work of art!
And speaking of art, here are my choices for favorite artists (in paint media!):
1)Georgia O'Keefe
2)Paul Cezanne
3)Vincent VanGogh
I look forward to exploring this site! Thank you, Janis, for sharing your talents and humanity with us!

LOL Not a problem, Rachel. I was just having fun.
And welcome to the message boards, Maureen aka ZOBBIE1432!
What you say about Janis being so accessible is one of the first things I noticed about her when I first found this site and joined up. She's a breath of fresh air, that's for sure.

Stick around!
Marcia :)
