View Full Version : Something strange happened when I was away in China recently

A package arrived for me at my sister's. It was big, and as I would be away for 2 weeks, the package got put away. And was forgotten (out of sight, out of mind).

When I came back, I started looking forward to receiving my amazon.com order (Janis's autobiography and a panda DVD movie). By September, still no sign of the package, so I wrote to report a possible missing package. After being told to wait a bit longer, the package still did not arrive, and the amazon.com rep wrote to say it's probably lost, we'll refund your money. Which they did, and very promptly, too.

Two evenings back, I arrived at my sister's to have her tell me "oh, there's a package for you ... actually, it arrived a while back."

It was the missing package from amazon.com. Lying inside a dark cupboard for the last 2 months.

Meanwhile, I've ordered a replacement from Janis's online store. The set comprising book and CD. So I'm going to have 2 copies of her autobiography.

I'm not complaining, tho. It's just the way it happened.

I've been dipping into the book, and enjoying what I've been reading. Crying, too.

You rock, Janis Ian.

Oh, and I wrote to tell amazon.com and they're charging me just for the items, not shipping.

Hi Chet,
Glad you got it all sorted with ease.

Did you get to any part of the Olympics / Para Olympics in China?

I watched some of it on TV. It was deeply moving...especially the courage and determination of the atheletes and the participants in the opening and closing ceremonies.

I've just finished reading Janis's autobiography for the second time and loved it all. It truely is an amazing book and I believe it will be made into a movie some day.

Enjoy your read...it is so full of courage, humility and love.

I agree with Hoops. 2 copies of the autobiography, isn't that what they call doubling your pleasure?

I was in Beijing but not to attend any of the Olympics events. I was there to visit the zoo! I wrote more about it here:
While you guys were at the RudieQue ... (http://janisian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6446)

The Paralympics took place after I returned home, but I did catch the last bit of the opening ceremony, which led me to search for pictures on the Net. I eventually found them via a friend's blog:
The Big Picture: 2008 Summer Paralympic Games (http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/2008_summer_paralympic_games.html)

Chet... a huge thank you. These photos are fantastic. I had watched some on TV. They are all heroes....I bow to their courage.

During the opening or closing ceremony, there was a young girl aged approx 12 in a wheelchair who had a leg amputated following the earthquake last May. Her dream was to be a Ballerina when she grew up. She danced Ballet in her wheelchair during the opening ceremony. It was really beautiful.

The photos of the Pandas are beautiful too.....Chet, you have broadened my horizon and increased my awareness of their beauty! And would you believe, I came across an article about Mao Mao in the National Geographic last night!

Thanks again......hopefully I've stayed on the right thread this time!
