I've been working my butt off (oops, it didn't work!) getting ready for a garage sale that started today. The amount of CRAP a family accumulates in 13 years is amazing. The unseasonably warm and humid weather made the preparations less than tolerable. The "early birds" who show up an hour before the opening time and want me to let them in really piss me off. The dealers who come first thing and want me to lower my prices irk me.
Now that I have the bitching done, let me tell you how today was once we got started. Instead of a barrage of people, there was a steady stream, and they were eagerly greeted by our dogs, Misty and Drifter. The only time they barked was when someone had their dog in the car, and HE started it! Most people were truly "dog people" who petted, talked to, and loved on them both--especially Drifter. (If I knew how, here's where I'd post Wendy's lovely photo of Drifter!) The #1 question of the day was, "What kind of dog is he?" (to the best of our knowledge, he's samoyed and Great Pyrenees) #2 question was, "Does he shed a lot?" (Oh, HELL yes!)
The best part of the day was when I said "hello" to a lady, and she and looked at each other rather intently. She looked familiar and I could tell she thought the same. I thought I knew who she was, then she nodded, said , "Yes. Karen?" Then I yelled, "DEBBIE!" We hugged, yelled, and probably scared the other people. It was my best friend from junior high and most of high school. I hadn't seen her in over 21 years. Her mom lives in a new assisted living place just a few blocks from me. We had a great time chatting, and will get together soon.
I sold some stuff, talked to a bunch of interesting (and not so interesting) people, and was exhausted when I finally closed the doors. Tomorrow I get to do it all over again.
Oh yeah, Ned had taken off work today and tomorrow to help, but he disappeared early on. He had some crisis with work, and spent most of the day on the phone and computer. That's OK. I survived.
I'm going to bed now!
