Was reading of today's election in Canada and was linked to this story.
What in the world is happening to the world?

SUDBURY, Ontario, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- An independent Canadian federal candidate in northern Ontario may face hate crime charges for his "execute gays" remarks at a high school, police said.

Candidate David Popescu told some 200 students Tuesday afternoon at Sudbury Secondary School "God would hurt" those who had an abortion, Sun Media reported.

Soon afterward, a student asked Popescu's opinion of gay marriage, to which he responded homosexuals should be executed, the report said.

It wasn't reported who contacted the Greater Sudbury Police Service to complain of hateful speech, but Sun Media said Popescu repeated his statement in a telephone interview.

"A young man asked me what I think of homosexual marriages and I said I think homosexuals should be executed," he said. "My whole reason for running is the Bible and the Bible couldn't be more clear on that point."

Deputy Police Chief Frank Elsner told the news agency the complaints were being taken seriously.

"We are actively conducting a criminal investigation in this matter," he said.

Canada's federal election is scheduled for Oct. 14.

eh? Does the Bible say gay people should be executed? Now, I haven't actually read the Bible but I would be amazed if it said anything remotely like that lol

Good that you got to vote, Dee :)

I'm glad I voted too, David, head cold or not. I thought it was important to get out for. After all it was our current PM who held a vote in Parliament to try and reverse the new Gay Marriage law as one of his first acts of office.

As for that other nut case, the less attention we give these people the better, I say.

Funny thing about the Bible....it was written in languages which do not have a word for "homosexual". There is a passage in I believe Leviticus which says something about "who lies with a man as with a woman shall be put to death". HOWEVER....the passage is part of a lengthy chapter which consists entirely of ancient tribal law--NOT "the word of God". If I recall correctly, the same chapter also calls for execution of anyone who wears clothing made of mixed fibers (death to poly/cotton!), disobedient children, and any man or woman who wears the clothing of the opposite sex (remember, in the Middle East back then, men wore robes--pants didn't come along for quite a while).

Somewhere in the same region of the Bible one finds a description of who can be owned as a slave, an edict to the effect that women must isolate themselves apart from men while menstruating, and all sorts of other delights.

Jesus, to my knowledge, never said a word about homosexuality--and not that much about heterosexuality. I believe Paul (who never met Jesus) alludes to homosexuality in Romans 1, then promptly contradicts himself in Romans 14.

What I'd like to know, above all else, is why "conservatives" never seem to read any of the friendly parts of the Bible. Perhaps they have a different book than the rest of us.

Or perhaps they just take the mindset of good old Alex from "A Clockwork Orange", who while in prison, takes a great liking to the Bible. "I liked the first part of the book best, as it was all about smiting and tolchocking and doing the old in-out in-out with their enemies wives".

if one wants to forget the coming of Christ then they can look at the old testament and find hate, sex and violence to their hearts content. Jesus came to say "hey...you got it all wrong!, it's about LOVE people, acceptance forgiveness and love"
as i rad judy's post i thought of the Phelps family here in the lovely U-S of
A and i wonder if they have a camp in Canada...oh and happy election day Canada...good luck

Well that was a spectacular waste. All we did was end up with another minority Conservative government as predicted. This was a pointless exercise from the outset and a complete squandering of time and money. We’re actually paying for this? I want a refund.

Yep, I'd been following it some, Dee so figured that's what was in store for you guys. The only good thing for you guys is that the campaigning only goes on for about 6 months as opposed to this year and a half circus we have going on here.

Actually this time it was a rushed 37-day campaign Judy due to the PM’s stupidity. Knowing that the likelihood was that we'd have the same minority government at the end of it all was the most pointless part.
