I mean I have snack, drinking water with nice flavour in it, surprise song star, comfy chairs and sofas, a bbq grill and...........tv.
Only need people, anyone intrested? It could be a Eurovision-Song Contest party, I hear that the dutch have the best song this year,:D the Belgium song is also intresting:confused: the Israel song may be a winner, but the UK song is pretty.......hmmmm how to put it in a mild way......different........:(

Another year and another Eurovision greets us with even more delight than the previous year.

Germany will hit us with their usual savoury snack of cheese.

The Balkans will all predictably vote for each other, as will the Scandinavians too.

Greece and Turkey will show their usual friendliness towards each other.

Nobody will vote for the UK apart from Malta and Ireland.

The UK will give Ireland 12 points.

Estonia will give Latvia 12 points and visa versa.

So all in all much different to last year:rolleyes:. But well worth the entertainment value. I fear for any Americans watching this show. They must really doubt the sanity of European music whilst watching this.

Yes, let's have a virtual party.

I've got some Sam Adams beer, some good cheese and nice snack crackers. I'll get settled in tonight to watch the Amazing Race while following developments on the other reality shows via the net.

You are so right Des.
I miss the old times when the contestands had to sing in theyre own language, the songs also where a bit more traditional for the country they represented, folky if you like. Now everybody sing in english and seem to be singing the same song that rhyme to the word try, cry etc.
Good thing thow that one traditional thing does not change and that is which country gives his deux points to.

Ace move aside so I can sit beside you....seems to be a good show tonight.

Count me in, wouldn't want to miss the total humiliation...

Tell me how was the counting. I always turn off the TV set when they get to that part. It's disgraceful and sometimes even humiliating to witness how other factors than pure musical ones intervene, thus turnning the whole show into a farce. I didn't have the time to listen to the pre-show, but the Israeli one Gisli, doesn't seem to me a winner this year. I find it more kind of a gimmik. You wrote:"I miss the old times when the contestands had to sing in theyre own language, the songs also where a bit more traditional for the country they represented, folky if you like. I certainly miss these times, too. In fact, then French, German, Spanish and even Hebrew languages didn't seem to be an obstacle to win the contest; on the contrary. It was the only time Israel won twice...
BTW, please, don't bite your fingernailes during the count; have some Stroopwaffels, instead. (-; Agnes, have you got any plans to bake a chocolate cake in the honor of that event? Could you save a teenee-weenee slice for me? (-:
Have fun,
Geula.

Gisli why does Iceland never take part??

David we have been in the competition for the last 20 years and always....thought that our song was the greatest...a sure winner. Well usually we donīt get many votes, we never understand why:eek: But we made second place once. Tonight is the prelimenarys and our contestand is called Silvia Night. Have not been able to go through the prelimenarys last???????many years, so we never have made it to the finals.

So gather all around and keep your fingers crossed.....and NineSpace donīt worry if you canīt come until the votes start they are the most fun, because you know how the votes go...so there is nothing to do but eat them stroopwafles that Agnes brings along.

I think Finland:mad: and Iceland:o will make it to the finals this year, why??????because of negative publicity....just wait till you see them:D

Well Finland made it to the finals but not Iceland and believe it or not neither did the Netherlands. Almost all of the countrys from east part went through, how surprising was that. Geula our best choise now is Israel.

Gisli,
I haven't been watching the show, at all. Friends have invited me to a gril party, instead, where we had tons of food, and later a "sing-along" evening, which I found much more enjoyable. Missed you, folks, though.
I haven't heard the songs, yet... but alreday had the chance to read that the Israeli song, is at the pits.
You wrote: "Geula our best choise now is Israel". How, exactly? Haven't we scored the fourth (from the bottom of the list....)?
What exactly do you find so good with this song? I think it's awful.
BTW, I was too harsh with us, Israelies... We took the prize three times. I've totally forgotten Diva. Pardon.
Geula.

Sooooooo Gisli... Finland won. Indeed completely amazing. Gwar is childplay next to these creeps. In fact when I first saw them I thought I had zapped to some kind of horrormovie. Scary!! And the song...? Well, I prefer Rammstein, if you don't mind. Nothing wrong with alternative rock, but well... What shall I say? Finland surely has come up with a song that is not 'typical' for the songfestival. To say the least...

Eva

PS: By the way Geula, I liked the song that Israel won with the last time very much. I forgot the name of the woman who sang it but it was called "Viva La Diva". I heard that in Israel there was a big controversy because the singer was transsexual. I thought it was wonderful that a transsexual woman won. I am sure the LGBT community in Israel was very enthousiastic. (LGBT = Lesbian Gay, Bisexual, Transgender)

Eva hi,
The woman who represented Israel last year is called Sharon Cohen, and her stage name is Dana International, after the title of her first album. Unfortunatelly, I was abroad at that time and didn't watch the contest that yearbut listening to the song seemed even then, that it has the right ingridients, if you consider a language barrier, as each country had to send a song in the language spoken there. All I know is she got favorable feedback here, in Israel, from all sectors, except for the religious, who focused on other aspects but the musical and artistic ones, and it is a pity. Even the newspaper reporters did a remarkable job, in promoting her. Indeed, it was the first time a transsexual singer represented a country, which is constantly debating on religious matters, and is sometimes even divided because of them, which is very sad.
Prior to the contest there were lots of debates here, among Israelies whether it is a good/wise choice or not, will the fact that a trassexual peron represenrts us is a gimmick in order to win the contest, will it have an effect during the vote, etc. However, Israelies were proud (pun), and a few of the LGBT members went out after the show on the streets, on parades. Some even jumped into the water fountains around, and were having a real cool (pun) party. :-)

Ah yes, Dana International. Now I remember... At first I also thought her transsexuality would be used to win the contest. But she passes so well. I am sure that people wouldn't recognise her as not being biologically female if they wouldn't know her story. She didn't look like a dragqueen to me. Just a pretty woman with a nice song. Like the rest of the female contestants.

I agree with you on Rammstein, but as for the costume the Finns are wearing. They have to wear them cause if they donīt they most surdenly would scare people to death.......Men are they ugly without them....pheww.
