Found out about the upcoming new album last night when I was looking for the German or Dutch tour dates... Nearest to me would be Amsterdam but the darned school won't let me escape, I'm afraid.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new album as Tracy has been a musical companion to me ever since her first album came out back in 1988. By then I was still living at my parents' home and sharing the vinyl album with my younger sisters who loved it as much as I did. That's almost half of my lifetime ago...

Thanks for the reminder and the link. Interesting guitar work, looks like she's playing a Martin Backpacker and the other guitarist looks like he's capoed up about 12. Nice sound, song, and Tracy looks like she's having fun. I'll try iTunes tomorrow since I doubt the CD will be anywhere here on island.

I like Tracy Chapman a lot but her music usually depresses me more than anything else.

Just an interesting thought with a bit of a laugh attached...we Janis Ian fans find some of Tracy Chapman's music too depressing ...kinda funny huh

It is yes :D
Although somehow the differece is that Janis' music gets me through an already existing depression by touching the very core of it. I love Tracy Chapman musically and I find her lyrics very strong. But there is a sadness in her voice that kind of causes the depressions. Ergo: if I listen to Tracy Chapman I have to listen to Janis after that to get me back up again. Shees, this is complicated. I think I'll skip Tracy for now.

I've always - since my early twenties - found Tracy's music very special and very inspiring, but that it could be depressing? This wasn't what I felt, never have felt.
And the new album is not depressing at all and much more upbeat than the two before.

Eva, if you're looking for music against depression: Listen to Chris While & Julie Matthews...:)
