Here's a site where you can vote for your favorite animal people...do me a very special favor and cast at least one vote for Amanda Lollar, the original Bat Lady who has probably done more singlehandedly to rehab injured and sick bats than anyone I know.
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting her and touring her rehab center when I was in TX for my son's wedding, about 3 years ago or so...she is wonderful, completely selfless, and could sure use the prize money!
When you go to the site, read more about her, and visit her web pages at Bat World Sanctuary...a fascinating and delightful woman! My personal thanks to all who vote for Amanda!
(Contest ends Oct. 15, and you can vote everyday...not too demanding.)

Very interesting... Bat... I remember one summer being in Austin, TX, downtown on the Congress St bridge there is a whole huge colony that take flight at dusk.... I remember it seemed like a never ending stream of the little critters going up into the sky. And when I was stationed on Okinawa... we had trees out front of our barracks remember seeing two fruit bats hanging out as I walked past. They are pretty good sized and have a very large wingspan

That's a great pic, Mary! Those little guys are invaluable in reforestation... true, they eat a lot of fruit, but there is a lot in the wild, too, and they egest the seeds all over the place, not just where they eat, so they spread the forest fruit trees over a large area.
Through re-education, the inhabitants are learning about the great good bats do and are less prone to catch and kill them for raiding their orchards, which they have put right where there used to be rainforest...can't blame the bats.
Stem!:D
Here's another link where you can also vote, and tells about Amanda:
