There's no possible way I could narrow things down to just 10. I -might- be able to get it down to 10 favorites in each genre..... maybe. Even within each genre there are often subgenres to deal with. There's just far too many excellent artists for me to consider trying to condense them all down to just 10 over all others. I admire (or possibly pity) those that can. I admire those that have the discipline to narrow things down to just 10, but on the other hand I might have pity for them because they're limiting themselves and possibly not allowing themselves to appreciate some of the other wonderful music that's available.

Absolutely, Dave! Mine was totally off-the-cuff, too! I've been doing the head-slap, myself, but other than my BOYFRIEND'S (JG) music, duh, I'll keep them to myself.

And like has been said already the 10 favorites can fall to change by any motivating factor that brings on a memory... Often a memory that I haven't thought of in years....

That said at this instant in time I would say that without consideration to order and including Janis near the top would be my two favorite Troubadores...

Janis... Just about any album that I am listening to at the minute...

Harry Chapin... Same as Janis....

These are the true troubadores....

Pink Floyd... Dark Side

The Beatles... Sgt. Pepper

Chicago... C.T.A

Earth, Wind & Fire... Best of Vol. 1

The Grass Roots... Live at Last

Blood, Sweat & Tears... Greatest Hits

Queen... Greatest hits

Steely Dan... Aja

Thats it for the minute til I change my mind....

Best

R.

Ohhhhohhhh I saw marjan's picks.... Time for some changes...

Michael.... Thriller

E.L.O.... Any album...

Emmerson, Lake & Palmer...

Sanford Townsand Band... Don't know the album name...

I'll have to go along with most everything everyone has listed, ...I see I'm dreadfully out of touch with most European artists, so must remedy that.
I will add:
KD Lang...Absolute Torch and Twang.
Anything by Annie Lennox...even like her new stuff after a few listens.
Anything by The Mamas and The Papas.
Anything by Peter, Paul and Mary.
Most anything by The Beach Boys.
I even like Margie Adam's 'Naked Keys' for a blast from the past, and
Anything by Meg Christian, namely 'the Gym Teacher' from "I Know You Know".
Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, especially the harsichord solo (which degenerates into the first example of a good boogie woogie!)
Mozart's Horn Concertos, esp. #3.

Guess that will have to do.

Well, to choose 10 of my favorite albums of all time... hummm, it really depends on my mood which I could possibly consider.... so I guess I'll just jot down some of my favorites off the top of my head... as previously stated by others before me.... two hours from now I'll probably say, now why didn't I think of THAT one... but here goes... just some of my favorites that I play often enough:

Unforgettable – Natalie Cole
Space Oddity – David Bowie
Ziggy Stardust – David Bowie
Anything by Annie Lennox or Eurythmics
Live by Request – kd Lang
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me – Gloria Estefan
Anything by Bette Midler (it’s hard to choose)
No Easy Walk to Freedom – Peter Paul & Mary (but anything by them really)
42 Street – (1980 original Broadway Cast album)
Hello Dolly – (1964 original Broadway Cast album)

(I could go on and on about the Broadway cast albums and David Bowie alone.... but there's a start, I have a little bit of everything in my music collection from Bach to Rock.... so depending on my mood, my list would vary greatly.)

Wildflower....see you're also a fan of the White Album. Am I the only one who feels that it has too many tracks on it that are just not quite top-notch material or seem to be outright "fillers"? Things like "Revolution 9", "Bungalow Bill", "Why Don't We Do It In The Road?", etc.

It has always seemed to me that it could have been a very strong one-disc album. I like it just fine as it is, but so often I find myself waiting for "the good part" to come along.

There is a group called Purple Chick who has been releasing Beatle's mp3's on megaupload.com. They have a 10 disc version of The White Album, and most other Beatles classics that have been remastered in stereo from pristine vinyl. There is definitely overkill here, but I enjoy the alternate and demo versions they provide, along with studio chatter.
"Happiness Is A Warm Gun" is one of my favorite songs of all time.:)

Wasn't "Hey Jude" released as a single from the White Album, even though it doesn't appear on the album? It certainly belongs on the playlist.

Yes, I'd say ten discs would be overkill, but undoubtedly all those alternates and funny bits do have their own appeal.

I think you're right about "Hey Jude." I've found some real magic in some of these alternate versions and out-takes.
Here is an "Abbey Road" deluxe set that includes multiple takes, and versions like accapella songs. Pretty neat:

05 - The Ballad Of John And Yoko - Take 10 Acoustic 2:20 The Beatles Abbey Road Deluxe Vol. 2 Disc 1 - Sessions Rock & Roll 1 6/2/2008 2:38 PM

Yes, I did love the original Broadway album but have become really fond of Back to Broadway-some of the songs on it just seemed less expected, more enjoyable -like I love Between the Lines but sometimes I just am in a Night Rains vibe and I'll like it better. Like I say, depends on where I am in my moods, my life and the music I surround myself with. It's really hard to choose favorites because they do change quickly-but old standbys like Between the Lines, Tapestry, The Dark Side of The Moon bubble up into my consciousness like they are a part of the grey matter. :)
