The builder of our new house has 2 little girls, ages 5 and 7. A couple of weeks ago, Ned volunteered that we would be glad to watch them if he and his wife wanted to do something, "sometime." He immediately jumped at the chance, and the girls spent a couple of hours with us that evening. Of course, we let them have candy and watch a Care Bears movie. They groaned when the doorbell rang and I said it was probably their parents. They stayed a while longer and we had brownies and ice cream while plans were made to some day have a sleepover.
Late yesterday afternoon, Dave called and wanted to know if we wanted to go get some ice cream, which we did. Off we went to Dairy Queen, where we had a great time visiting. We were laughing about something when Abby, the older one, jumped off her chair, came to me with a hug, and said, "We want to adopt you. We want to adopt you to be our grandparents!"
Their grandparents are all out of state, and that is the same situation we had with our girls. When we were in Tennessee, we met an older couple in our neighborhood, and from the time Bailey was born, they treated her as their own. All of their grandchildren were out of state, and on the way to being grown up. They became our Mimi and Popo, and they were (are) like family. "Mimi" is still living in PA, but "Popo" passed away about 3 years ago.
It looks like Ned and I are on our way to becoming "Mimi and Popo" to Abby and Katie. And I couldn't be happier!
