View Full Version : "Only" a yellow bird - but I'm really sad
This morning I found one of my two nine year old canaries dead in his cage.
There were no signs of an illness before, heard him singing loud yesterday morning and so I'm both shocked and sad. I buried him the park near my school.
Goodbye, my little singer!
Mimi
I'm so sorry that your bird died, Mimi. 'Only' a yellow bird? I don't know. It's a life, an animal. And he was with you for nine years. I am glad you buried him in a good place. Take care.

Mimi, I'm sorry for your loss of your beautiful canary.
I, too, had such an experience like yours. By beautiful Red Factor canary named Jimmy. I had him for about 10 years and just like yours one day he seemed totally fine and the next morning I found him lifeless. I believe an average lifespan for a canary is between 10 to 15 years.

Mimi, your canary wasn't "only a bird" it was a pet! I'm sorry for your loss and know you will miss him and his singing.

Well, I do know so well he was more than ONLY a bird, he and his brother have been my companions for nine years.
I really hope his brother won't die of sorrow (as canaries aren't used to living alone) before I find him a new partner as soon as possible. The lonely guy is very quiet today but at least he eats and drinks.

Mimi, it's so heartbreaking when a loved one departs this world. Do you remember when our cuddly Ginger died last year? Simba took that one so badly. Just so, it's the same for you. "Only" a yellow bird, say some. "Only" a life, a character, a friend. Rest in peace dear little one.
May his brother find happiness soon.
Hugs, Annabel

Mimi,
We are sorry for your loss also.... "Only" to some may have been a yellow bird but to you he was family which makes him part rudie... We will share our tears with you for his passing.
Be well...

Yes, Randy, he WAS a Rudie bird indeed, loved to sing with Janis! - Well, and with other singers as well, to be honest!

I DO! Unfortunately I'll be away from home all day tomorrow but I trust Rachel to look after him. And on Tuesday I'll look out for a new companion... not that I'm thinking to replace the one who has died but to comfort the one left behind alone.
Thanks for the comforting hug!

sorry about your bird, i know you can get close to animals, even birds and fish. i have 4 cats, one dog, 2 fish. they are all from shelters(except the fish) and all about the same age, sometimes i worry i will lose them at the same time. each one could never be replaced. take your time to grieve and dont let anyone tell you it is just a bird.

I'm sure the Rainbow Bridge is for all our beloved, departed, companion animals, be they a 91 pound malamute named Max that I lost in 1999 or your little yellow canary. Large or small, a piece of our heart goes missing when a pet dies, especially if it is sudden and unexpected.
I hope his brother is doing well and you too...thinking of you.
