I will be starting a new job this tuesday, my anxiety is through the roof. I have been stuck in a god awful job for two years, low pay etc. this pays more and fits my skills more so hopefully it will work out. i dont know why i am talking about it here, just another thing to get through i guess:confused:
Oh, that's very exciting. Great and nervwrecking at the same time. I wish you a lot of succes in your new job.

How did you feel when you went for the interview? Did you have a sense you would enjoy working there?
I was stuck in a really bad job for many years. Well, the job was good, but the head of department was awful. When I did something well, she would said it's part of the job, but when someone did something well, she would praise them sky high. It made me feel I was not good enough. Finally, I quit last year. I stuck with the job for the health benefits, but eventually realised the job was making me unwell, so it wasn't worth the health benefits.
The point of my story is, your previous job might've made you feel bad about your abilities, which may be why you're worried about the new job. But that's just the old job.
I wish you all the best in your new job, and that your new colleagues will appreciate you and your abilities!
What Chet Said, Trish. You GO Girl! Make sure they appreciate you, pay you well, and that you really like what you are doing. That's backwards; if you enjoy the job, they will definitely appreciate you and pay you for doing it well; How's that? Positive attitude is definitely called for here!
You have lots of support here. Ain't no way to get though 'cept to go through. Wishing you good thoughts, positive energy, and lots of deep breathing. And fun co-workers will sure help!

There should be Lamaze courses for the first day on the job. Just keep reminding yourself that it will get better, quite dramatically so as a rule.
The Rudies have your back....what more could you ask?
Listen to Chet and to Dave especially, I'd say.

Congrats on your new job Trish! They hired you, not someone else, so they obviously have confidence in your abilities and that it will work out. You'll probably be bored silly, sitting through some corporate orientation program.
Of course I'm always anxious starting a new job. I get anxious going to anything new - even my first Janis Ian concert! ;) I've had a lot of experience with new jobs.(nope never been fired) We can be your virtual job coaches as you acclimate to your new position. Can't wait to hear how it goes!

well done Trish on the new job. Anxiety in this kind of situation is totally normal, and shouldn't be seen as a problem (says he who has an anxiety disorder :p ).
Tell yourself there is a reason you got the job, you obviously impressed them, and listen to the wise words here.
:)
I know all about anticipatory anxiety Trish. It’s no fun.
All good wishes for the new job!

Congratulations on your new job Trish. A very wise woman once told me that the body's physical reaction is the same for fear and excitement. So let your positive side take over and embrace the excitement!

Hope all went well today...being new isn't easy but when you are an old hand at your job you can make it easier on the new person in the future. I hope there was someone there today who made you feel welcome on your fist day.
